They were not expecting massive success but they were hoping. There's no point to wait when all the nerd conventions were going on. Strike now. If it tanks then plans change as always. Terminator was planned as a trilogy and that has been put on hold/cancelled in the meantime. The world wide numbers weren't bad either.

Jeez that sucked.

I called it, but wasn't expecting it to be that bad.

Keep Pegg well away from Star Wars thank you.

Are you sure it's Pegg? It could of been the lack of JJ at the helm.

Well it's between Pegg, Jung (the other writer) and Justin.

I just think going by Pegg's comments while making it that he was going about it all wrong.

Lack of Abrams isn't something to blame it on. Sometimes it's good for a Director whose kicked a franchise off well to take a break from it. Think Spider-Man 3.. Sam Ramai stayed on 1 film too long. Or Chris Nolan with TDKR. Or heck even Joss Whedon with AOU.

Going by the tough time he had on this movie(quitting several times) it makes you wonder if it wasn't the studio that f*cked this movie up by slashing the budget it and rushing people. You have to admit it is weird it had the same budget as Into Darkness.

Also sometimes it can be good for a director to take a break and other times it is not.

This is by far the weakest of the trilogy. This movie doesn't come close to the greatness of the first two. I can't fathom how someone could enjoy this more than either of the first two films. Playa loved this the best.

Thought it was great.

I can see where the money went. It had tons of action and special effects. Just didn't have a compelling story or script. You need that to enjoy the action.

This was just terrible.

They obviously made a decision to make huge chunks of the movie dark and shaky so you couldn't tell how shit the action was. The humour was shit. The acting was shit. The b-movie make up was shit. For the third time in a row the plot was about an angry antagonist out of his own time hates the federation for weak as piss reason. I would've said the homage to Leonard Nimoy was the only highlight but they even overplayed that with 3 different attempted emotive scenes about it.

It was terrible. Just utter garbage.

Chris Pine looked like he's bored of this now. I mean seriously was Zack Snyder directing him? What was with the Caville/Superman broodiness the whole film. Total change from the last 2, where even when he was brooding he was clearly having fun as well.

And

Spoiler:
Movie Enterprise destroyed again? Really? That was one weak ass Enterprise, always getting its butt kicked. Well here comes the Enterprise-A. Wayyyy too early

I take issue with this. What was the enterprise going to do against all those ships ?
Spoiler:
They boarded it and when Krall gave the order to cut its throat it was done with precision. The threats should be too much for the heroes to overcome in a direct fight without circumstances to show why they survived to later prevail. These ships would run rough shot and decimate any star destroyer that made its way near Krall.

Some of the humor was funny, imo. Kirk's "ripped shirt" was a nice homage to ST:TOS, also enjoyed bits of the Spock/Bones bromance.

Opening scene with Kirk was funny. Most of the jokes throughout the film were pretty bad. I still need a second viewing with my expectations lowered to give it a fair shake. Going to see it again probably on Wednesday.

I already told you.

I really liked the crew interactions. That said I want a Klingon war in the next film.

That ship has sailed. If the jackasses that blew up the Internet with their disdain for Into Darkness wouldn't have been so loud in the Trek community we would have gotten that in the third film. But instead we got stuck with boring Krall. At least the mini ships were a cool change of pace but the main antagonist and his surprise twist was lame.

Yes Klingons! They've been building Klingons up for the last 2 movies, so why da f*** did we not get Klingons to finish the trilogy?

And Idris Elba could have played an Awesome Klingon.

Wasted opportunity IMO.

So I'm pretty much blaming the production of this movie. As I said, we were given signs something wasn't right months ago when various people involved expressed misgivings about the films.

The movie was rushed, the budget slashed, and yet the studios still thought this could be a billion dollar earner or something close.

This is a very unfortunate thing. It's like when you play a really awesome video game that gets really awful towards the end because the people making it were rushed.
