It was already explained. He wanted Trunks to gauge his power in comparison against Black. He even mentions this in the episode him and Black fought in.

If he didn't know how powerful Black is then naah. That's why he cranked it up all the way to Super Saipan 3. Right after their battle in the next episode he asks, how is my power compared to Blacks. Then Vegeta states right after that "Goku tends to always hold back his power in battle. He cranks it up during the end".

It's like asking Daredevil to compare the power levels between Stranger and Master Hate.

An ant won't be able to tell a difference.

Goku does what he wants. Your a vegeta guy, I would expect you to know that🙂

My point is, it seems like Trunks got more powerful than he should've.

Goku didn't want to embarrass him in base form. That's not who he is.

He could just explain it's actually a Saiyan Beyond God form. No way he's hiding from Trunks all that ridiculous god stuff that happened, not with Vegeta, Beerus and Whis around.

Why would Beerus and Whis bring Goku around the person that takes control of him in the future? I don't get it. And then let the guy get a feel of Goku power. That's weird as hell to me. They spoon fed Goku to him.

Goku was obviously holding back big time. Even in his ssj3 form. Trunks stats that Black was a bit stronger than the ssj3 power Goku demonstrated. Then we see ss2 Goku crank it up and get the upper hand on a Black which was then stated to be stronger than he ever was before.(also stated by Trunks)

While I'm not a fullblown Vegeta guy, I hope he gets to take a shot against Black before it's over, at least.

I'm really hoping Vegeta takes out Black...

I wonder, is the Kai that is Black using the body of deceased future Goku, whom had perished from the heart virus?
