And now we know aside from leaps of logic based on nothing at all, Carver is also a homophobe. 👆

Idk, I think there's something to what carver is saying. I think DBS is mostly shit, so I don't watch it. I think I've seen one full episode.

Watching every episode is kind of weird if you hate it.

Well, like I said, it's the same with Star Wars.

Or Transformers.

Or even Smallville back in the day.

It's partly nostalgia, and partly morbid curiosity that keeps me coming back to that stuff. (And in the case of Super, I it's just something I do early Sunday's before work or whatever. Almost NOTHING worth seeing on a Sunday..

From a storytelling and narrative standpoint, aside from the character development we've gotten from the likes of Future Trunks and maybe Vegeta, much of DBS has indeed been crap, some of the fight scenes aside. I've been watching mostly for nostalgia reasons and the occasional good fight scene. Still, I have high hopes for the current story arc. The concept on a multiversal team tournament on its own is awesome and has the potential to be the best arc throughout all three series if done right. But if they do what they did with the Goku Black arc (good idea initially, sucked hard once we found who Black really was), it will fall apart before the end.

In order to succeed, this arc has to accomplish the following:

1) Actual character development for Goku. (The seeds for this have been sown, but will he actually learn and grow from all of this? Doubt it, but we'll see)

2) Make every other member of universe 7 serve a purpose, both combat and narrative wise (i.e. Possible given the groundwork laid down for Piccolo, Krillin, 17, 18, Roshi, Vegeta and Gohan thus far, but we'll see. Am a little worried about Tien just being an extra, but again, we'll see).

3) Don't f-ck up Frieza (i.e. made him a good guy or turn him into fodder after an obvious betrayal).

4) Retcon the 40 minute time limit (tournament needs to be two days long at least, so we can get at least one campfire
[http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CampfireCharacterExploration ] moment before the climax.

5) Every universe not named Universe 7 or 11 should not be treated as fodder. Writers need to take the Hunter x Hunter approach to developing antagonists and secondary antagonists (doubtful. Am 90% positive every other universe will have a gimmick at best, but be pointless fodder in the end) (the entirety of universe 10 is obvious fodder thus far).

6) Make the actual tournament part of the arc at least 40 episodes long (See above for reasons why).

7) No bullsh-t filler (i.e. stuff like the alien poachers from the Android 17 episode or stuff like these "assassins" almost randomly showing up in the latest episode) (doubtful. Am 90% positive there will be a lot more gimmicks like this throughout the arc).

8) No copout ending (i.e. Goku wishing back all of the universes with the super dragon balls) ( universe extinction means extinction; at absolute best, the interesting characters from the other universes get to live in Universe 7 from now on) (doubtful, but we'll see).

9) No bullsh-t new forms (i.e. Super Saiyan White. At very best, Kaioken x 100 or Super Saiyan Rage) (doubtful, but we'll see)

10) Most fights must be decided with unique strategy and unique teamwork, not brute force (self-explanatory) (doubtful, but we'll see).

11) Whis was lying about a mortal being stronger than a god of destruction (cheesy way for Goku to surpass Beerus. If that happens during the series, let it happen at the end).

Highly doubt we'll get all of these, but the potential is there . . .

The idea does sound like it coukd be fun.

Sort of like turning Budokai 3 into an anime, with all the crazy match possibilities. All you need is Hercule.

This totally kills power levels forever, though.

All of this is personal opinion. Some like it and some don't. We are almost at a 100 episodes. If you didn't like it around episode 20, I think it is extremely weird as hell to keep watching it if it doesn't suit your taste. Example, I didn't like the Spawn anime so I stopped watching it around episode 4. Why continue to watch something I couldn't stomach.

With me seeing some of these replies, it seems like a lot of you are watching it because you have an agenda. After every episode, CDTM post on here saying Goku got hurt by a bullet, etc...

Dark has been downplaying the Z fighters since the beginning and low balling Goku saying Roshi is as powerful as Super Saiyan Blue Goku.

There's plenty of anime to watch. Don't waste your energy on something you can't stand. By the way, the black arc was good. Another thing, DBS is currently the top anime in the industry right now so a few members on KMC complaining daily isn't going to change those sales. Hell, if anything, you all are helping it.

Downplaying, nothing, he's commenting on what happened.

Basic logic prove power levels aren't what they used to be. Battle royal, god characters fighting with humans. That only makes sense if humans can percieve and react to god tier beings.

No one's really saying Krillin beats Goku, they're saying Krillin isn't losing to Goku worse then Chi Chi did.

@ Dark-Kenshin: I tend to keep up with the series for similar reasons, but meh.

Black's identity may have been kinda predictable after awhile, mysterious as he was at first, but I didn't have a problem with that as it made sense. The Merged Zamasu crap, at least for me, was when the arc really started going downhill along with the rushed ending, despite the cool moments Future Trunks still had.

Agree on pretty much all your ideas/conditions on the tournament of power arc for it to be great, but I too can at least see a good chunk or most of them not being met...

If ToP arc gets squandered as a whole, I'm just gonna conclude that Toriyama holds Dragon Ball back by this point and that he needs to go, despite the masses of fans who might defend anything he does. Can't say I agree anymore with the idea that anything DB Toriyama's not connected with is crap. I mean sure, GT didn't work out, but it had some creative liberties or fresh ideas to a point too, just they weren't executed well, not unlike some Super arcs.

@ Carver: Super's huge/top because it has the Dragon Ball name attached to it. That's it, and I watch plenty things myself besides this, whether it's anime or not, and way me and many see it now honestly, we don't need Dragon Ball to thrive anymore like when Z first came to the West when anime was still new for mostly everyone. Rather, Dragon Ball needs us all to survive now, and shitting on what Z had previously established with power levels and well, everything is just giving a middle finger to loyal fans who wanted to see Dragon Ball continued as they knew it. Super has some of the most retcons out of anything I've seen, but you know, I still give it a chance to see how it all ends and goes down as I did with GT. Keeping up with something, regardless of how long doesn't make it exempt from being called out on changes or things you don't like, or mean you have to suck its dick. Hell, there are some parts or moments of Super I do like as pointed out, just they're too far in between. Always telling someone to stop watching something because they don't like it as much or the same way you do isn't healthy either. We're not a hivemind/echo chamber, like it or not.

I don't get why you take it as a personal attack when someone has problems with something you like. Frankly, I liked the most recent episode of DBS. Flat out enjoyed it and gave my reasons why in the thread. Some other people here said they didn't like it. Ctdm said it sucked. Didn't make me blink an eye. Different strokes. Different folks. That's the way it's always been.

As for why I stick around, it's because the reasons I stated. 1) Nostalgia. I've been watching/reading Dragon Ball forever. Have seen every movie, every episode and have read every page of the manga. 2) I think this show has potential in spite of the bad and gave my reasons why above. Why not comment on that? We could have a pretty positive conversation if you like. I'd love to talk about how to make the current arc great. Has nothing to do with an "agenda." Couldn't care less about Goku vs Superman, which is why I almost never comment on it. 🙂

We'll have to disagree, but I thought the latter half of the Goku Black arc was plain bad. We get so much mystery about Black's identity and it turns out to have all been some lamebrain bodyswapping scheme from a dude nobody takes seriously. Pretty much every youtube reviewer I've run across has expressed the same opinion, so it can't just be that I'm a "hater." Combine the potara fusion letdown, the Trunks spirit bomb and the literal deus ex machina ending and that arc is easily the worst in all three canonical dragon ball series by far. It's only saving grace, IMO, is the character development Future Trunks got and some of the Goku vs Black fight scenes, which was actually pretty good all things considered.

I really wanted them to go through with this evil Goku idea in one way or another. Once it turned out that it was just some guy in Goku's body, the entire appeal of the arc lost all of its luster. And after that, everything just snowballed downhill for me with the stuff you mentioned. Even the return of Vegetto, a moment which should have turned the arc around, ended up being a letdown once they added that BS fusion time limit retcon. But I digress.

cdtm has enormous love for DBS.

My apologies.

So I wonder if the Universe that is attacking Freeza and Goku get wiped out immediately. Since the God himself comes out. And Beerus should sense that. Also, how does nobody sense Golden Freeza emerging like that. They are all like Goku hurry, but nothing of them noticing Freeza power up, for seemingly no reason.

@carver

WHAT?! You didn't enjoy the HBO Spawn cartoon?!

Please tell me you made it up just for naming an example purpose or I'll f*ck you up. I will eat your heart, carver. And your liver will get consumed by my dogs.

Yep,.he has terrible taste in everything.

Carver probably thought superhero John Cena was cooler then old school edgy heel Cena.

I don't like Cena, period.

My problem with a lot of db fans is this weird nostalgia glasses they wear. As if db was ever deep. It never was. It was always fun characters, fun concepts, fun fight scenes with overdramatization. As long as this series has that I cant complain.
