I hope they do something with piccolo. Make him a Namek God or something.

For example: I'd much rather have the other Z Fighters be relevant in the series, then have Goku/Beerus rack-up universal feats. /shrug

This is only 12 episodes and look how far we habe progressed, imagine if this is 200-300 episodes. There will be character progression, but Goku has been the star and he deserves this upgrade. Vegeta is clearly almost there.

Lol? Aside from Goku and Vegeta, there has been absolutely NO character progression among the Z Fighters... And it certainly doesn't look like that will change any time soon. srsly

We agree on something here.

Tien needs to be treated more like a fighter......
Krillin needs more of a power up than Goku/Vegeta
Gohan needs to be developed more......

Overall DBS is now just fan service at its best.....

Awww I think you are little bitter that your island buster / super sonic speed was wrong

While I'm sure he's butthurt, you really can't deny that DBS is extremely fan-servicey right now. It's really just turned into the 'Goku & Vegeta Show', unfortunately.

You must be gogeta sourpuss 2nd cousin.

We are all sorry that Thor and starbrand stomped the entire beyonder race, but please leave that elsewhere.

I don't mind it so far but it will get old quick for sure. I hope they have something planned to fix that

Feats are cool and all... Just don't let them come at the expense of the rest of the cast.

The might have to bring in new characters. I feel like bringing the z-fighters to this level would be pretty shitty as well. Maybe Gohan and piccolo

We'll definitely see a lot of new characters/races pop-up when the Z Fighters travel to Universe-6 in search of the 'Super' Dragon Balls:

AT: "'Dragon Ball Super' is a complete continuation of the Majin Buu story arc. It's got a bit of post-battle aftermath, continues with the 'Battle of Gods' arc where the God of Destruction Beerus appears and the 'Revival of F' arc where Freeza comes back to life, and then, I've written a strange new story where they finally depart from this universe. They're fighting against their neighbors, Universe 6! They'll yell at me if I give away too many spoilers, so I'll keep the rest a secret, but they're chasing after giant Super Dragon Balls; I think things will unfold in a bright and simple way, that will be really fun and exciting!

Since it's another universe, loads of new characters will turn up. I'll do my best to draw the tons of character designs necessary, so I'm looking forward to this too."

I just wish/hope some of the Z Fighters(who aren't named Goku or Vegeta) become relevant again. It's still doable, imo.

Galahand, start handing out hand jobs.

Increasing moral is your task.

The Kaioshin have gotten more character development than any of the other Z fighters 👆

What is this I hear about Goku and Beerus hollowing out the entire universe with the shock waves of their blows? Because from what I remember of the Battle of Gods movie they fought in a city and the only thing they managed to destroy was Vegeta's ego.

Did I just type "hollowing out?" Oh god, I've become everything I hate.

Probably yes, but this time he is 100% right.

If only they followed the DBZ manga continuity and gave Chou Gohan the SSG boost...
THAT would be something cool to see.

I think that both things are necessary in their own ways.

- As far as feats of power are concerned, it's about time for Goku to show them: I mean, Goku was planetary level back in the Saiyan Saga with KKx3, now look at how far we have progressed. Affecting the universe with a fight is the right showing for someone who has become a God, and it also balances the whole DBZ continuity in power, with the huge steps in power (Ssj, Assj, FPSsj, Ssj2, Ssj3, fusion, Potara fusion), from the planetary level of Goku's KKx3 24.000 BP Kamehameha to the universe shaking fists of SSG Goku, which are thus justified.
For this same reason I'm also glad they completely remade the BoG fight, which was, IMHO, completely underwelming and it didn't make justice out of the level of power Goku has now reached.
- Regarding the rest of the Z fighters being also relevant, it has to be a must to me: in Comics, people don't have the same strength, yet everyone is relevant in their own way. This is the same thing which must happen to DB (stupid example: let Piccolo, #18 and Kaioshin fight against multi-planetary threats while the SSGs are in other universes, etc.).
Finally, a personal note regarding Gohan: since the very beginning of DBZ, we were told that he has the potential to be far superior in power to everyone else; reached the point in time when this finally became a fact (Chou Gohan), it would be utterly stupid and asinine to waste his character like they are doing now.

If the fans enjoy it why not keep it up? I mean I can agree, I hope it does not continue to be a Goku/Vegeta show but I know it wont matter to a lot of other fans if it does.

They very well could. The SSG form does not really seem to build of the saiyans base strength. He could be right there with Goku and Vegeta

Toriyama has always, and I do mean always, shown preference to the new characters over the old.

Who gets farther in the first tournament Goku entered? Yamcha, his old adventuring buddy, or Krillin, a guy who has been kind of a dick to him? Krillin because he is newer, stronger, and the best "rival" for the time.

Who helps take down King Piccolo? Yamcha who actually lost his master and a close friend to the Demon King? Nope. It's Tien because he is newer, stronger, and the best "rival" for the time. In fact in universe Tien was a douchebag to the crew just a few days prior.

Who helps save Goku's kid? Any of his human allies? Nah. It is Piccolo, who is newer, stronger, and the best "rival" for the time. This was a guy who wanted to take over the world lol. He also gets to be the one to heroically die to protect Gohan, whereas most of the others died without doing anything noteworthy.

Who is the most helpful against the villains on Namek? Goku's long time friend Krillin? Nah, it's Vegeta, the newer, stronger, and the best "rival" for the time(and the one Toriyama stuck with). Honorable mentions go to Piccolo who comes back to be pretty helpful against Freeza and Gohan, whose power is slowly starting to rival Goku.

Androids are the same deal. None of Goku's oldest friends can put a dent in 19/20 but Vegeta and Piccolo handle them swiftly. 17/18 overwhelm them all but soon the only peers are the Saiyans and Piccolo. Imperfect Cell was at one point not a fan of fighting Piccolo but after enough eating curbed him. Once he was Semi-Perfect he was utterly untouchable to all but Super Saiyans(with the Tien feat as a notable outlier of the whole series). When Perfect Cell was introduced, only Goku/Gohan could do anything to him.

Come Buu. Who gets dismissed before any chances to do much? Krillin and Piccolo. Do they get to redeem themselves once Gohan/Vegeta are out of the picture? Nah. The newer and stronger Goten/Trunks are now he only hope for man kind. And who ultimately saves the universe? Gohan, the strongest individual? Nah. The saviors of all life are Goku(of course), Vegeta(the one that fits the core rival role best), Fat Buu(who is new and fun to write/draw), and Hercule(who is new and fun to write/draw).

Were I a betting man I would say that Gotenks/Buu will fall to the wayside in favor of letting Beerus and Whis get more attention. Gohan I'm a little more hopeful for as he was shown with Vegeta and Goku at the beginning of the Super Manga and he actually got to do stuff in RoF, unlike the kids/Buu. However in terms of what he has accomplished there is not much to indicate Gohan will be treated any better than the other non-godly ki possessing characters. Still I could see Toriyama wanting to work with the new father angle again.

It actually reminds me of Hajime no Ippo. Makunochi's first opponents are treated as big deals when he first meets and fights them. Then slowly but surely they fall to the wayside, not even being in the manga really, as Ippo climbs the ranks to rival boxers on the world stage. Only a few of Ippo's rivals stand the test of time. It sucks because we like the characters but it isn't unrealistic sadly.

Naturally this feels worse in DBS's case because it is a sequel series to one that wrapped up 2 decades ago. We're nostalgic for these old characters but the only ones in the old guard that mattered were Vegeta and Goku. We wanna see Tien, Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan get to do stuff because we liked them as kids. That's why I appreciate the army battle in RoF. Sure in the grand scheme does it matter that Freeza lost his army? Not really. I mean I guess it does in the sense that they could try to bring Freeza back but that is a stretch. But it is still fun because Roshi is hulking out, Gohan is throwing out blasts, and Krillin gets to hop around. It is fanservice and the very best kind. Will we see more of it in the future? I have no idea. I hope we do though.
