Pretty much. 👆Super Saiyan also started out as this completely unique transformation that was tiers beyond everyone else... Then it was cheapened in the very next arc, when the Androids and Cell were introduced... Then we got things like SS2, SS3, fusions, Ultimate Gohan, and so on.
Same thing with SSG and God ki. It was cheapened in the very next arc, when Golden Freeza came along... Then we got shit like SSB, SSB+KaioKen, Omen, MUI, Ultra Ego, Beast Gohan, and so on.
The transformations in DB(particularly DBS) are apparently limitless... So even if an upgrade starts off as "special" or w/e, it won't stay that way for long.
Don't forget about SSJ grades 😉

Sucksessor to Cell: While Cell Max easily beats his predecessor in terms of raw destructive power, he is also a brainless Berserker with none of the original Cell's cunning and intellect, as well as a lack of a Healing Factor (when his arm gets blasted off by Gamma #2, it does not regenerate). Cell Max also has an Achilles' Heel purposely built in, curtesy of Dr. Hedo not having much faith in Cell Max's usefulness to begin with: a strong enough hit to his head will kill him instantly.
Still haven't seen Super Hero, though I understand the dub releases in the West later in the month.
Come to think of it, does Cell Max even have what the original was mostly known for, in having the Z-fighters' techniques? Suppose anyone whose already seen it can answer that but based on the mindless berserker label of him, I'm guessing not. Strategically using all those techniques at one's disposal would require having a brain to begin with, so it may as well have been a generic monster unrelated to Cell or anything from before.
Almost as though making a clone of Cell that takes away all of the things that made him dangerous (intelligence, techniques, regeneration) was a stupid idea.
How that bio describes Cell Max is exactly how he was portrayed in the movie. A giant, mindless berserker, with no real handle on his power at all. Likening him to Bio-Broly fits perfectly, as they were both garbage tier. Seems like his only role was pushing Gohan into "Beast mode".
Originally posted by Ridley_PrimeI think it was mainly because Hedo had complete faith in the Gammas. He firmly believed they would be able to handle everyone.
Interesting that Hedo apparently didnt even have much faith in the usefulness of Cell Max to begin with. A prototype for a more authentic Cell of his down the road perhaps?Dont mind me, just spitballing.
Oh, I see.
Admittedly from what I heard from someone, the original Cell probably dodged a bullet here since Cell Max's inclusion allegedly came off as a last minute thing with the Gamma's being the main driving force of conflict. Iow, anything relating to Cell or a version of Cell in this was always going to be half-baked fanservice. Shame too since 2022 appears to be the 30th anniversary of the Android/Cell saga of Z (when it first existed in Japan, I know that stuff came much later for us).
Cell Max wasn't even a real villain. Just a thing unleashed because Piccolo Orange > Gamma 2. The movie could have ended there, with Gamma's and Hedo realizing they were being played and turning around. Cell Max wasn't even close to Cell at all anyway. It wasn't made from the Cells of the heroes, it didn't absorb the two Gamma's. The second form design also made no sense. Because if it's design was based off Gero's work, why wasn't it first form cell?
