Finally got around to seeing Super Hero somewhere online, and my goodness that was hilariously bad. Seems like it had a ton of production issues. Story is all over the place and the visuals are very inconsistent.
It has the same problems the other films do, only it's much more pronounced here because this movie tries to be more story driven. Those movies would have been just as awful if they did the same, but instead they elected to be mostly fighting.
Super Hero could've worked if done differently, but the tone is so inconsistent and the conflict is really weak because even Pan is too strong for these villains and the villains themselves are too goofy and weak to be a threat. Piccolo helping "kidnap" her is such a lazy way to make Gohan power up and it undermines the entire conflict of the movie to bandaid the fact that Gohan is a shit character with no narrative purpose now.
Same with the scene of his new transformation, which itself was weak nostalgia bait (you see a black screen followed by a red line crossing his head like when he went SSJ2 for the first time as a teen) on top of being the most asspull powerup out of all the ones he's had before.
Piccolo was the one saving grace because he had not only the orange form, but could turn giant again which he did to combat Cell Max for a bit and then hold him down at the end with the stretchy arms so Gohan could get the finishing shot. Gohan was just a plot device here though; Piccolo was the real hero.

It would be weird if it's Uub because he's already been around, and showed massive amount of dormant ki. Unless Uub's started his training for the next couple of years, and that dormant ki is getting more from training.
That would at least explain why Goku was still excited to train him by the EoZ.
I still don't get all the fuss with Uub. He was never an interesting character. All the big guns of universe 7 are more interesting than him, besides Gohan now I guess.
With the world martial arts tournament during EoZ, it's funny in hindsight how Piccolo was all "I can't contend with you saiyans", when he has the orange form now. Super Hero supposedly took place years after the recent manga arc and stuff too, putting him and Gohan back on par with Goku and Vegeta which was what Toriyama clearly intended, regardless of Uub.
Piccolo can contend with MOVIE versions of Gokou and Vegeta now. But we don't know if that version can use UI or anything. It might be written by Toriyama, but it doesn't mesh with the manga in any shape or form.
Neither Orange Piccolo nor Beast Gohan will probably be much in the manga. But who knows what they are actually going to do when the manga resumes also
Well said, Kento.

Maybe they will all get depowered before EoZ 😂
Assuming EoZ won't simply get retconned away into an alternate universe or nothingness, of course.
Galan's obsession with Uub is sickening, but he can't help it.

Oh yeah, I cringed hard when Gohan dropped and wasted a senzu bean that Piccolo tried giving him. The whole thing with him having poor eyesight in normal form never made sense. Just a stupid in-universe excuse for him to keep the stupid looking glasses.
Didn't realize until someone else pointed it out too, but Gohan missing the senzu bean was a callback to when he missed the potara earring that Goku tossed him. ...They made a callback to when Gohan had another idiot moment prior to being absorbed by Super Buu. facepalm That's all they can do with Gohan anymore I guess; make callbacks to when he actually mattered.
And y'know, being reminded that a good hero can only be as strong as the villain makes them within a story (the stronger the villain, the stronger the hero and all that), it's just as well that a weak hero like current Gohan who has to be manipulated into caring, has a worse version of a villain he fought years and years ago. A weak hero may as well have a weak villain.
The original Cell would be wasted on this Gohan. The Super Hero title was only in reference to the Gamma's (and Piccolo), not Gohan whose a terrible hero.
I figured this movie must take place pretty close to EoZ given that Trunks and Goten have finally been aged up physically.
Though I know it's not really new to Super but I still don't care for how Gohan's Mystic form is treated as another transformation. Also I may be misremembering things but didn't Gohan's glasses have fake lenses in them. Not sure how or when he would've developed eyesight problems.
Whatever the cause or reason for him having poor eyesight in normal form in-universe, it's simply so he can have big glasses to look somewhat like Clark Kent, just like how old buckethead Saiyaman is his parody take on Superman.
As a Cell fan, interesting so far seeing fan-art of Perfect Cell Max, bittersweet as it kinda is feeling for what could've been.

The thing about Uub is he was just kind of put there as a means to end Goku's story back when Toriyama intended to end the series for good, which... Now is going to be kind of awkward since like Kid Buu is nothing compare to literal god level power escalation.
And while there is Uub retroactively having god ki, goes to show that god ki only matters when Tori/the writers want it to. ermm
Even if Uub ends up being the strongest after some training, what's the hope? That he acts as a successor to Goku? They'll just backpedal on that like they did before with GT. Regardless of how Dragon Ball "ends" again, Goku ain't going nowhere. Same with the other current strong characters probably, but who knows.
Apart from that, Dragon Ball is making too much money to end again anytime soon, even if some of us want it to... On that note, while Super Hero didn't do that well in the first month of Japan as pointed out earlier, it's doing very well domestically. Sold just a little more than DBS Broly on the opening day, but Super Hero had twice as much screens to go see it on as Broly did, so curious how it'll do after the opening weekend and when it starts seeing diminishing returns here in the West. Hopefully Broly still remains #1 in the end out of the DBS movies.

I never really cared for Oob, because like you said: he was basically just an asspull of a character from the onset... But asspulls have been DBS's thing since the beginning, so Oob *still* having more potential than anyone would be par for the course. /shrug
After all, the manga has gone out of its way to show us the ridiculous amount of God ki/potential that Oob has access to:
https://ibb.co/gzRYJ27
https://ibb.co/9wx19KZ
https://ibb.co/0DpLC54
And as of the last chapter, not even Whis is convinced that Black Freeza is truly "the strongest"... So I feel like that could set the stage for Oob being revealed as that warrior(hence Goku still being so eager to train him during EoZ.)
Yeah, DBS likely isn't going to end anytime soon(even though it should), and frankly, they don't even have to stop at the EoZ -- they could easily start delving into the "GT-era" and continue the series endlessly, if they wanted to. 😘
On that note...and I never thought I'd say this... But am I the only one at this point who thinks GT might be superior to DBS in terms of overall quality? GT certainly wasn't "good" in that respect, but DBS has just been pretty terrible outside of a few select arcs.
