Black Lives Matter vs All Lives Matter

If black lives really mattered to them they'd stop blacks from killing each other. In the time it took me to write this more blacks were killed by other blacks than an entire year of being killed by cops combined.

You are right, police officers are a bit better at not murdering black people than violent criminals of any race are. Lets celebrate!!!!

Then perhaps they should change their slogan from "Black Lives Matter" to "Black lives only matter when taken by white cops who justifiably shoot them." 👆

Nah, the slogan is perfectly fine. You don't have to qualify every implied thing

"Black lives matter, but that doesn't mean that other lives don't matter, in fact we are saying black lives matter because police officers care less for black lives than other lives, so we are trying to change that, also criminals do kill more black people than police officers, but it seems harder to change their mind with a campaign appealing to their morals, so we focus on police officers for now, when we say lives we mean full human beings, so for example a black tree which is admittedly black, is not really covered in our efforts...."

Just doesn't fit in a hashtag.

Additionally, you don't demand that specificity from other, more stupid, slogans like "We'll make American great again" for example.

make america great again is a self explanatory slogan... elect trump and he'll pimp your homeland

where as black lives matter is just confusing and needs clarification... e.g. "black deaths matter when they can be exploited for political purposes"

No

It shouldn't be the responsibility of the movement to explain the meaning of their slogan to recalcitrant white people who are afraid of talking about discrimination black people face because it might end up implicating them as complacent or even somewhat culpable for that discrimination.

I find it amusing that anyone who isn't fully behind the movement or doesn't understand the motives is a white person who just doesn't get it. Interesting rationalizations.

What do you mean by not being "fully behind the movement"? there are some people that consider themselves behind the movement by posting pics and hashtagging stuff on the internet.

Because I don't think you are talking about people who think racial crimes by public defenders shouldn't stop.

Well, that's probably an over-generalization, you're right. There are probably also Asians, Latinos, and Black people who just don't get it as well. Thanks for helping me refine my statement. 👆

My main argument though is that by attacking the slogan, certain people try to avoid talking about the real issues that the slogan attempts to bring up; hence they don't "get it" because they go out of their way to avoid "getting it."

You're assuming the message of blacklivesmatter is clear and it should be understood by all.

To be fair there are people "avoiding the issue" on both sides of this. For instance..keep in mind the high percentage of black on black violence. It's an issue that is largely avoided.

See, this is an example of a red herring. Black on black violence has no relevance in a discussion of mainstream discrimination against black people. What you're doing right here is exactly an example of avoiding the conversation.

It's a major problem, but not one that has anything to do with black people not being valued as highly as white people in the operations of the law and in the media.

Challenge yourself to talk about prejudice black people face without deflecting toward black-on-black violence.

How many times have I actually used it? If you want to waste your time combing through all my posts to give a count, that could be interesting, but I don't really care.

Bro, you don't even know me.

Real question, do you think I'm black?

And this is the problem. You don't see any other minorities creating their own movement like this. If there's discrimination, all the minorities are getting it. Singling out one of them is just missing the point.
