Why is the theory of evolution considered a threat by certain Christians?

Fine. Let them teach their evolution BS theory in class and yes, a "theory" is all it is. Theory does not = fact I don't care what any one says. It should be made clear to the children that it's just a theory and nothing more. PERIOD. As I said earlier, if a parent truly cares about their child and his/her eternal future then they will educate them about creationism and the fact that Christ is the Son of God who died to pay for their sins and that He rose from the dead 3 days later; and that they should accept Him if they don't want to burn in Hell one day.

You are using the word theory in a common way, but not in the same way that science uses it. This youtube video illustrates some of the differences:

In heaven they're still probably having a debate over if the earth is flat.

"If it's round, then why does it look flat to me when I'm standing there? Can't explain that."

...but they wouldn't debate in heaven, because everyone would agree that the world is flat.

You two show how ignorant you are regarding "Heaven". LOL. No one is in Heaven right now other than God (the 3-in-1) Himself. Everybody who has died and ever will die up until Christ returns is still in their graves asleep. Perhaps you two should educate yourself before you shoot your stupid mouths off next time, maybe and display how utterly ignorant you both are? 🙂

you telling me to educate myself is like a 2 year old telling me to grow up.

If heaven is full of idiots, I wonder the sheer incompetence of humanity on this planet.

That's not exactly how death works

Have you ever died? Case closed

fair play

The process by which humans reached the point we are now is undeniable, the question is whether or not God was behind it, and I think that question is ultimately one science can't prove or disprove. As such I don't think God's involvement in the process of evolution should be confirmed, denied, or even addressed in science classes.

So are people with severe mental disabilities just going to be burning in lakes of fire then? After all if the disability is severe enough these people might not even be capable of understanding what love is or who Jesus is.

Another question since now I'm curious how far you think God would take this. Let's assume we have a guy who lives out in the country and this man has a child he keeps completely 100% isolated from society. The kid was never told anything the father didn't want him to know. The kid eventually reaches adulthood, but tragically dies prior to actually getting out and experiencing the world. Lets say the father hates religion so the kid never heard a peep about it and has no idea who Jesus is or even what Christianity is.

So where does this person end up? Remember, he's never even heard of Jesus so he sure as hell can't be having any love for him..which according to you having love for him is the only way to escape these fire lakes. On the other hand it's not this persons fault they don't know who Jesus or God is. So then what happens?

One, atheism and science are two different things.

An atheist is anyone who's beliefs do not include deities. This is, of course, completely separate on whether or not they have the slightest inkling in science, or if they hate scientists. They could believe the universe is made of collective belief, or that science is wrong about the makeup of things, or any number of things. There's atheistic religions out there, you know.

Similarly, tons of scientists are Christian, most Churches support science as real, etc.. You're trying to push a divide there that many Christians disagree with.

The theory of gravity has nothing to do with religion, but you'll fall regardless, because science doesn't care what you believe.

You may not believe in evolution, but you'll still get sick from flu viruses who evolved their way around your immune system, unless you use a vaccine- another bit of science- to catch your system up to their adaptations.

And the great thing about science? Is it can be be tested, by anyone, repeatedly.

Evolution has been tested millions of times and found to hold just fine, countless more if you count all the every day evidence. Learn how it works and you can test it out yourself too, you don't even need to rely on others.

That's the nice thing, at the end of the day, with science, you can go in and *check*, and see others check, and compare the results and see what's real.

BUt, it's not considered a scientific "truth" . IT's only a theory and the propoents of it know that. The only reason they teach it is because they're horrified at the thought of the alternative to how everything came into being. Which is the actual truth.

It's considered true.

There is no separate category above 'theory' in science called 'truth'. Something doesn't get promoted above theory- a theory describes how somethings works.

We've got a theory of gravity- as mentioned, we know it *less well* than evolution. We've got a theory of how oxygen and breathing works. We've got a theory that humans require metabolizing food to survive.

They're all heavily tested theories, and thus we're quite sure they're true, but science never, ever, ever asks you to just call something a 'truth'. Science says if it's true, then you should check it anyway, because that's how science rolls.

You're not really testing science, you're amending theories. Very few theories have stayed constant.

Right. We often refine and upgrade theories as we learn more and more. It's not that the initial stuff is always wrong, but it's often imprecise, a mere approximation, and there's so much more going on as we go deeper.

---

One way to put it, everything in a science book, including evolution, is much more supported than stuff in a history book, and the history stuff is usually true.

Because, imagine if rather than going over historical records and interviews and talking to people further and further from the events, that you could instead go back to an actual event, look at it from different angles, and talk to the people present and ask new questions when they occurred to you.

You'd see history books revised regularly as people learned more and more, and rather than taking people's word for it, one could check and confirm. History books would become both more fluid and more accurate at the same time, and sometimes, when someone stumbles upon a conversation that indicated that X really ordered the assassination of Y, things get revised heavily, and that's not bad at all, that's a good thing, and that's basically analogous to how understanding of science works. Each theory is like an event that can be visited at any time, and we learn more and more about the more we go over.

When you called other people ignorant were you able to type that out with a straight face?

You are exactly the type of person that shows how potentially dangerous religion can be. Practically foaming at the mouth and when you tell people who disagree with you they will burn in hell or act happy because you think people will burn in hell I legitimately think that is how you feel.

Will all those people who have never heard of Jesus Christ be sent to hell? First we must note that the Bible says God will judge all people righteously. It seems there will be a stricter judgment for those who have rejected the gospel of Jesus Christ than those who have never heard. Paul tells us that those who have never heard of the law are not imputed sin under the law. Paul also tells us that those who follow the law (e.g., practicing Jews) will be judged by the law. The people who have never heard of the law are judged by the law of God which He has placed into their hearts:

For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves, in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. (Romans 2:14-16)

Judgment is coming
A further indication that the judgment of God is based upon what we know and what we have been given can be seen in a warning by James:

Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we shall incur a stricter judgment. (James 3:1)

In other words, those who know the gospel, study it, and teach it will be under stricter judgment, since they have the ability of guide others, or lead them astray. Jesus, in the parable of the Master and the slaves (Luke 12:41-48) talked about the difference in judgment between those who know the will of God vs. those who do not know:

"And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, shall receive many lashes, but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. And from everyone who has been given much shall much be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more. (Luke 12:47-48)

God's desire
Strict Calvinists say that God chooses only some people for salvation, while damning the rest to hell. However, the Bible indicates that God wants all people to be saved and none to perish.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Although God would want that all be saved, He doesn't force anyone to spend eternity with Him. So, all must freely make the choice to seek after Him or reject Him.

Babies who die
There is one particular class of individuals that certainly go to heaven even though they haven't accepted Jesus as Savior. The Bible makes it clear that infants and children who die go to heaven on the basis of their inability to fully understand the difference between good and evil and make a rational choice. It is likely that older individuals who are, likewise, unable to choose because of a mental disability, go to heaven without the requirement of having to directly choose Jesus as Savior.

Don't know the name "Jesus"
Truths that Changed the World: Discovering Christianity's Most Dangerous IdeasDo people have to know the name "Jesus Christ" to be saved? Many people do not know that "Jesus" is not the "real" name of the Savior. His real (Hebrew) name is "Yeshua," which is usually translated into the English as "Joshua." The Greek transliteration is "iaysous." In fact, in three verses of the New Testament (Luke 3:29, Acts 7:45, and Hebrews 4:8), iaysous is translated into the English as "Joshua," since the text refers to the Old Testament saint. In addition, the word "Christ" is not Jesus' last name, but His title. The Greek word "christos" (translated "Christ" in the English) means "Messiah," the "anointed one." This is why the New Testament letters often refer to Jesus as "Christ Jesus," which means "Messiah Jesus." Other languages have different pronunciations of the name of Jesus. However, God is able to understand whom we are talking about and save us no matter what we call the name of the Savior. In addition, Job, from the Old Testament, was saved even though he did not know the name of the Savior. Therefore, although it is true that Jesus is the only way to get into heaven, you don't necessarily have to know His name to get there.

What about the Great Commission?
Does the fact that people do not need to know the exact name of the Savior mean that Christians should not evangelize those who have never heard the gospel? When Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection, He commanded them to "make disciples of all the nations," which has been called the Great Commission. Although it might be possible for people to be saved in the absence of knowing the gospel, it isn't likely to occur in very many instances. Therefore, it is important that Christians proclaim the gospel as much as possible. Since we don't know if any particular person knows the gospel, sometimes we seem to be a little pushy. If you are a non-Christian, please don't take it personally. We are not trying to annoy you, but genuinely want you to experience the peace of Jesus Christ and join us in eternity.

Know Jesus, Know Life - No Jesus, No LifeI know there are many Christians who say that all those who die without faith in Christ will be relegated to spend eternity in Hell - even if they have never heard the gospel. I think scripture suggests otherwise - that we are judged on the basis of what we know and how we act upon it. This is not any sort of ecumenical theology or "all ways lead to God." Those who have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and have refused to believe have rejected Him, and, as such, will fall under the condemnation of God, because they have rejected His provision for our disobedience. Therefore, atheists are still without excuse in rejecting God. Those who perpetrate evil, even without the knowledge of the gospel, will likewise be condemned, since they have violated their God-given conscience. In the same way, those who play the "religion game" of going to church on Sunday, but living apart from a relationship with God, will be condemned.
