This reminds me of a hilarious scene from Family Guy. You have two guys from the time of Jesus. One goes "I like you and have no reason not to" and the other guy responds "I like you and have no reason not to" and then a 3rd guy runs up and says "you guys hear about that magic baby that was born?" and then they all pull out swords and stab each other to death.

Take that religion!

To add to this, it's really stunning when you consider the amount of gun violence that goes on in Mexico when there's only one legal gun shop in all of Mexico. They get their guns from America. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if most gun violence in the Western Hemisphere is caused by American guns.
if we can't stop the cartels from running drugs north and running guns south... what makes us think we can stop them from running guns north?

Well, if we got rid of the guns, the Drug Cartels would lose their supply. They don't make guns in Mexico, so maybe for a while they'd run surplus American guns North, but they'd probably rather keep what guns they have than sell them if the supply dried up.
if we stop, a new black market potential emerges for them.

Here is my question: is it possible that if we banned guns that the same thing would happen when we tried to ban booze? We don't need another failure like Prohibition and it took the f*cks over a decade to get rid of it.
But I would still think people would just turn to criminals to get their guns. On that note, why would criminals not see the opportunity for profit?
Doesn't mean there will be an illegal gun seller on every corner like there was with the speak easies, but why would a gun nut not turn to criminals to purchase weapons if the government banned them?
Especially when a good number of them have a fundamental misunderstanding of the 2nd amendment.
Originally posted by Omega Visioni wasn't making an argument for not getting rid of guns... i'm speculating on how successful such a measure could be.. it might be another failed prohibition just like booze & drugs, as surtur noted.
That's not a good argument for not getting rid of guns. People already make illegal guns. Hell, the cartels make their own tanks and submarines. The point is that it's at present absurdly easy for them to get guns because there's so many north of the border.
Also banning guns is just step 1. Even if it somehow was done then okay we stop the selling of guns. Now what about all the weapons people already own?
Then what about bullets? Do you ban them as well? Would banning bullets be easier then banning guns?
Or if you can't ban guns or bullets why not massively increase the price of them?
