I was ambivalent about the preimere. On one hand, I love the new rapid pacing in regards to imminent plot points. Just like Jon Snow's resurrection, the show wastes zero time getting to narrative developments. I thought we would have to wait to see Jon's realization of his lineage, the Greyjoy rescue, and Sam's reaction to his family's deaths, but instead we got it all in the premiere, which is awesome. I enjoy the build-up to the upcoming conflict between Jon and Dany about the sovereignty of the 7 Kingdoms, and I hope it leads to a tense standoff between the two. I'm looking forward to seeing Bronn's confrontation with Jaime and Tyrion, and whether he will attack them or join them. I hope that next episode, we finally get to see the vindication of Jaime, as Dany will finally learn that her dad tried to nuke Kings Landing.
As far as my complaints, while the writing is wonderfully efficient, it is also somewhat contrived and predictable. The political intrigue that gave The show its namesake is now all but gone. With the exception of the Dany/Jon conflict, the shows characters have all fallen into the bland categories of good vs evil, and unlike the Blackwater battle, there is no complexity between the opposing sides. Because there is no more political intrigue, Tyrion, Davos, and Varys all essentially useless to the story now, and Tyrion's only plotline now is his idiotic belief of Cersei's pregnancy. Also, as stated, the dialogue has become noticeably filled with quips and oneliners, which threatens the shows already unstable believability.
