Because it's SJW bait. They're waiting right before an Avengers film to release their female-led superhero film, just like last year when they waited right before an Avengers film to release their black-led superhero film. It's the same SJW tactic. Not to mention that Brie Larson is a massive SJW herself.
Any critique of a piece of art that has an assumption about the intentions or motives of the author as its premise is by default without value.
I don't give a shit why the people making the film are releasing it before Avengers, all that matters is the quality of the film itself. And Brie Larson apparently being an "SJW" matters even less. It's a non-issue my friend. I can't believe the reason you hope it flops boils down to,"I hope it fails because the lead actress has political views I disagree with and the film is being made for an audience that has political views I disagree with" lol.
I don't even necessarily think that isn't why it's being released the way it is, I'm just saying it straight up doesn't matter. Not one bit.
Also, I find it odd that a character who will be so pivotal in bringing down Thanos is only being introduced and set up a couple months before Endgame. Seems less like good storytelling and more like a ploy to force audiences to see it to understand the Canon.
This point is fair and I see where you're coming from, but I disagree. A full-length feature film is enough time to introduce a pivotal player in the next film.
I'll admit that my TIH BO projection was rather weak, and saying it is a guaranteed flop is rather biased and premature of me. At the same time, it's not out of the realm of possibility, and honestly, I feel like this films BO could go either way, as there are a variety of factors that could shift the film in either the hit or miss category. One on hand, it is a pre-Avengers MCU film, so there will definitely be an audience. On the other hand, Captain Marvel is practically unknown outside of comic circles, and I don't think this movie will have the appeal of GOTG. So ultimately, I can't offer a solid BO prediction. We'll have to wait and see.
I think it will succeed for two main reasons. First, it is connected to a franchise which is already hugely profitable (even Ant Man and the Wasp was a success). I doubt it will do Black Panther's insane domestic numbers, but it will almost certainly outperform it internationally since the Chinese hate black people. Second, marketing. Simple as that tbh.
I expect it to also be good in the generic MCU way most of the films are. Have I mentioned I'm not particularly looking forward to it btw? I've honestly grown rather weary of the MCU.
I will say this, Quan, if this movie is a hit, AND it's good, I will certainly eat crow and admit that you were right. I've been wrong about the MCU before. When GOTG trailers first came out, I thought that was going to be a subpar flop, and it turned out to be one of my favorite MCU films. So I might be wrong about this, but we'll ultimately have to wait for its release.
But you liked Man of Steel, your taste is shit! 👆
