Hate is one thing, but if anyone is genuinely saying without a hint of irony that they're not seeing why people might be apprehensive about this movie, then... What, did they have their fingers in their ears the entire time?
Anyone saying that the movie will definitely suck is being silly, but acting like there hasn't been cause for concern is also silly, imo.
Originally posted by -Pr-I honestly don't get it, shouldn't girls have a strong female, is anything suggested about Danvers toughness any different to Ridley in the alien movies 30 years ago. Dislike the actor if they want but beyond that... seriously, it doesn't look a patch on Thelma and Louise, for the sort of worries suggested and I enjoyed Thelma and Louise for what it was.

I'm a 40's white male and this movie looks like something for me. It's a superhero flick just like the Ironman, Thor, Captain America films etc. Those were all for me regardless of my age.
Originally posted by RobtardMe too, I also don't find Brie Larson manly in the least. The Kree are fascists so her uniform fits, I like others wish the supreme intelligence was the tentacles head, that's my biggest gripe.

She could use a bit more on the booty side, imo. That's just my personal preference. But I don't see "manly" in her at all.
Sigourney Weaver had far more of a "manly" aspect to her in Aliens and she was praised for that back in the 80's.
It's possible Annette Bening will become the giant head tentacle or she is and her humanoid body we see is just an avatar of sorts. But even if not, that's a minor gripe for me.

Oh yes!

I never said anything about strong, female characters. Yeah, there's going to be a small subset of people that don't like that it's a female-led movie. Similarly, a whole load of people didn't think much of Black Panther for obvious reasons (see: Asia), but that movie was fine in the end.
I'm hoping Captain Marvel is the same, especially with Endgame coming up. That said, the marketing has not been great. Larsen herself still doesn't impress me. All but the last trailer, to me, have been poor.
And then there's the litany of reasons for comic-book people not to like it either.
@ PR I never said nor would I state you are in anyway sexist or propagate sexist views, I know full well that's not you. So what do you think is not to like for a comic fan? I personally try and forget the comics when I watch a comic film. So few resemble the comics, Watchmen, 300, a history of violence, red and iron man being exceptions.
@ Ares, Same question almost for you Ares, what do you see as the main problem?

Comic fans are mainly upset for similar reasons to what i posted a page or so back. It's essentially reverse sexism, downplaying the strong male roles a great deal to empower a female and make her more powerful than everyone, including the 2 guys(Thor/Hulk) known for being the most powerful by and large.
Hulk gets knocked out by Thanos in under 20 seconds, but Danvers is supposed to be the one to put the Titan on his knees. That doesnt sound right to me. Not because Carol is the one to do it, but because they made it clear guys who have actually fought Thanos in canon for decades cant hack it while she's the only one who can. They didnt need to punk established characters to make her look good. But because she's a strong female leade they did just that.

This is my only issue with it too, tbh, I don't mind things being made for feminists occasionally. but when they just shit on established canon because "phuck you she's the strongest" is when I check out.
Originally posted by KingD19A certain type of comic fan perhaps, MCU deviated from the comics beyond repair with the Thor "Ancient Gods were extraterrestials". Doesn't stop me enjoying it at all for what it is. Surely Thanos's lack of love for Death or what they've done Planet Hulk storyline is a lot worse than Danvers being Warlock, the Surfer and Mar Vell amalgamated in this.

I'm not a huge fan of how they altered so much but I can deal with that as most of its done well. The point I'm making is that they nerfed Thor and Hulk HARD and this has been obvious in every movie they've been in and had to give them gradual power creeps to even keep up with the growing threats the Avengers face. But suddenly Captain Marvel shows up and is just able to battle Thanos with no reason aside from....she's Captain Marvel and women are strong. Usually stronger than men even
Its clear pandering to the female demographic to boost sales and such. The issue is that and not that they changed some things. I cant explain this much more clearly.
