The weird thing is the film seems to want to have it both ways. Poe helps destroy the Dreadnaught at the cost of a significant portion of their forces. This leads Holdo to not trust him though at the same time not really doing anything to impede him should he try something. When Poe did get a huge percentage killed with his utterly terrible hacker plan in addition to staging a full on mutiny, nothing was really done to him at all. It seems he is destined to be the new leader of the rebellion and all he did was fail lol.
He did what he believed was best for the resistance so his heart was in the right place but again they needed him so what could they really do ?
What I loved about the film was the back and forth. Sure, they fought back against the first order but every time you think they'd get ahead the first order would capitalize raising the stakes of the situation. It wasn't boring or one sided. The desperation of the resistance never stopped either until Luke had to pull the fake out to get the remainder of the resistance to escape aboard the M. Falcon.
Fantastic film which explored the greyness of war with only the profiteers truly excelling. Johnson made a fantastic film. Highly rewatchable with quite a few unforgettable moments.
