Loved the moments with Luke, Rey, and Kylo easily some of the best character drama in a long time and my mouth dropped in some of the Island sequences. Yeah, the glaring plot hole for me is when that one lady could've easily have
Spoiler:. But it was good to see a return to the mystical aspects of the Force, though I felt Snoke was a little wasted.
sent the ship through Snoke's Dominator, instead of let her comrades be vaporized
This was a fantastic movie and it surprisingly had some of the most beautiful imagery I've seen on the screen. Certain scenes will go down as iconic moments in the mythos. Kylo Ren and Rey are probably two of my favorite characters in all of SW now.
There are some things I didn't like, but mostly I loved the film.
Only in this analogy TLJ is the dog shit. The disparity between critics and the audience (mind you only hardcore SW fans went to the premiere and early screenings) exists because the critics are Disney shills.
Also, ares, I can't agree with blaming JJ for the things Rian chose not to follow up on in his movie.
I think Rian surpassed a lot of the straight up fan service with elements of the movies that are actually present and necessary to the OT.
Spoiler:for instance was used effectively to draw Luke out of his disillusionment, and the scenes where Kylo
Yoda's force ghost
Spoiler:. Rian had the same tools to work with that JJ had but used them far more compellingly imo. Again there are tons of scenes in this film that put the PT/Rogue One/TFA to shame
slays Luke's force spirit/wants to assume control of the galaxy are clear references to Vader's ambitions and Kenobi's sacrifice in ANH

Rian not following up on JJ's boring ass plot points (
Spoiler:) or perhaps more accurately subverting those were perhaps the best parts of the film.
Snoke & Rey's parentage
My issue is the treatment of Luke which already started with JJ having him fail and then run off and hide for a decade. Rian could have handled Luke better (though honestly there was no real way to salvage the entire mess) but at least he created a very compelling story and arc for the character.
Agreed, he made the best out of the whole situation. I agree that having the OT characters be huge failures was unfortunate and frustrating but he did as good with that plot as you could have hoped.

Spoiler:were jawdropping.
Rey's vision-quest and the Lightspeed ram
Also can I say how goddamn funny the movie was? Probably the funniest SW has ever been. The
Spoiler:scene was amazing. I was super reticent to see the movie early with a lot of kids in the audience but surprisingly I was laughing along with them most of the time.
"Yes, thats what the Force feels like, you must be really strong with it!" *SMACK*
