Palpatine got caught off-guard, too. And actually killed his assailant.
Vader was weaponless and it took a much longer time. Snoke put Kylo down the moment he made his intentions clear at the beginning of the movie.

Then you are blind...
Serkis the actor who worked with the director and on set agrees. Thanos doesn't need fests to figure out he's more powerful than Iron Man. Feat only posters are like children.

Yeah, BB-8 is a copycat. He is stealing screentime from R2.

IK.

I miss R2 and C 3PO on screen.

😂

You mean Darth Vader who is 10x better than Kylo.

Because Kylo is weak. Replace him with Vader and Snoke would require more than a simple bolt to put him down.

Ben beat Luke Vader got destroyed by Luke. Nah. Kylo>Vader.

Early reports have the 2nd weekend drop on par with Batman v Superman.

Ouch.

Except Batman V Superman’s second weekend saw no competition and wasn’t Christmas weekend.

TLJ is facing big new releases and... its Chrimbo...

Or.......the movie sucked.

There's that also.

I think anyone saying that this movie is pure, unmitigated shit is overstating it. Anyone saying it's as good as Empire though, is doing the same imo.

The truth of it lies in the middle. For me, it was disappointing and had some real issues, but I can see why people would like it regardless. It's certainly not the worst blockbuster this year.

And, let's be fair: It IS Star Wars.

Saw TLJ Thursday, pretty much agree with this TL;DR review. Is it the best Star Wars movie? No. Does it have some bad stuff? Yeah. To me, it was a really good, not great, film to put in the canon.

Jaden also had a post that I agree with close to 100%.

My recap:

Spoiler:
- Visually it was beautiful.
- Plot premise was interesting (slow siege happening while heroes fight against time to rescue everyone), but what happened from VII to VIII that caused the Resistance to go from "we just destroyed a planet-sized Death Star" to "well, this is it. Let's make one last attempt to escape"? Did I miss something?
- The opening bombing run to Leia Superman force pull was good enough to get me invested.
- First half of the movie that concentrated on Luke, Rey, and Kylo = great.
- First half of the movie that concentrated on Finn and Rose in the casino = worst sequence in Star Wars history not involving a character named Jar Jar.
- Second half with Kylo killing Snoke, the escape from the First Order, Laura Dern hyperspeeding the cruiser through the Star Destroyer, Luke vs Kylo final showdown to Luke force ghosting, all of it was sublime minus maybe the shoehorned elements of Phasma fight and Rose/Finn are an item.

EDIT: For dat dere spoilers.

Yah. Ouch indeed. I doubt this film will have great legs too.... too much bad word of mouth.

One thing I was wondering, maybe someone could shed some light on it for me: What's with the whole "they tried new things" comments? Because of the Force and the balance and such? Rey's heritage? Kylo not being the new Vader?

I've heard someone say it's the whole "they keep failing" thing, but Empire did that already. I mean seriously, watch it. Han, Leia and Chewie are constantly going from one bad situation to another after the ass-kicking they get on Hoth. Not to mention Luke ****ing off during his training and getting mutilated by Vader.

Kylo never beat Luke. Kylo was inferior to Luke in every aspect as seen in the last battle of The Last Jedi.

Yep. I’ve been trying to convince people who haven’t seen it to watch it today. But they’re all like “after Christmas”

But tbf some of them are saying they’ve been put off by bad reviews. Which is strange given it’s RT score.

RT's "Scores" are really kind of Crap.

...wow. That is sad. And kind of points out where your actual priorities lay.

How would you guys have handled Luke's story?

Let him suffer some serious setback, not outshine the new generation but end greatly?
