I think Johnson's directing would be cool in a self contained trilogy with no meaningful impact on the greater Star Wars narrative, because TLJ was an exciting movie.
Exciting doesn't necessarily mean "good for the saga in the long run", which is where I'm torn.
My biggest gripe honestly is that it just looks like the status quo (Rebels vs. Empire) all over again.
It was Kind of Crap. Snoke was a Joke. Little Kylie is still a little snot. Filled with Characters that They wanted me to care about but I didn't give a shit for. I have to agree with these guys.

I'm in the same boat.

In fairness, this was set up in TFA. Beyond that TLJ intentionally distanced the force storyline from the OT's going forward which I always felt was the core storyline of SW.

Not to me. I'm done with Star Wars going forward....The proper ending for me was Return of the Jedi. Sure, Disney might want us to accept their fan fictions as canon but for me.....not thanks.
Hey, that's your choice. Nobody is any more or any less a Star Wars fan for liking or disliking part or all of this movie.

Rian Johnson is going to be in charge of a new trilogy of films soon. Get used to his style.
His visual style is interesting. I think he has real talent when it comes to that side of things. It remains to be seen how well he can do as a storyteller, imo.

Disney will likely change their decision after this abomination of a movie.
Honestly, I don't know about that. With Abrams coming on-board and Star Wars making bank either way, I don't know if they'll feel motivated enough to do something about it.

It's funny to think about it now, but I honestly never thought i'd have to mentally distinguish between the pre-buyout Star Wars and post-buyout. It's a strange feeling.

It's silly to me that they got rid of the New Republic, which aside from the not-resurgent Jedi was supposed to be the legacy of the Rebellion.
He could've been. But with so little screentime... no chance.
We know that he's capable of a minor Force Lightning zap, has decent TK, can mind-read (which is FAR from flawless, as shown with Kylo)... sorry, that's not enough.
Maybe he'll be back somehow in IX. Galan is guessing cloned bodies, like in Dark Empire.
