Aquaman is a box office monster, thanks to female fans
I was just texting my female co-worker, and she has no clue about DC or Marvel characters, but is going to see this film (With her female friend), because of MOMOA. Same with my Aunt, who care nothing for comic book movies in general. 😂

So Momoa is essentially cougar bait? The male version of Fifty Shades of Grey?

I don't see what the argument is. WOM, Momoa, it being a not-terrible CGI-laden blockbuster... All those things are factors in its success.
Apparently me saying that excitement over DC finally making a another decent film was leading to it's quality being overrated somehow lead to Darth Thor talking about how much money it made. then me stating that it's making so much because of it's positive WOM is somehow an example of me making excuses.

I honestly don't think a lot of people care that much about it being "another good DC movie", but I'm sure it was at least something of a factor, just like everything else.

For me, it's just that 80-90% of the conversations I'm hearing are along the lines of thank god, I hope DC can continue to make good movies. They seem to be more interested in the fact that the movie is good, rather than the movie itself.
Those 10-20% that are actually taking about the movie, a good percent of them are IMO massively overrating it by calling it one of the best comic movies of all time. IMO, while it is a good movie, it's not in the top 5, might not even make top 10.

The few people I've talked to, the DC thing didn't come up, so it just varies I guess.
What I did notice was that the lower the expectations people had going in, or the less they were familiar with the character, the more they enjoyed it.
I think the DC thing would matter more if they were trying to build a cohesive universe, and at this point, I just don't see that happening.

Oh name dropping me on random posts to others now? Okay.
Like Pr and Golgo said, the brand DC isnt a factor for most people. Its not a name yet like Marvel that audiences recognise. Excitement can be measured by the box office, which is why I brought that up.
I really dont see the issue here. Or the confusion.
