Most MCU films are pretty forgettable, tbh. Not hating, but I only think a handful actually have replay value.
Thinking about this because my wife yelled at me the other day for watching Iron Man for the millionth time on TV. I can watch all the Iron Mans, Captain Americas, Spidermans, and Avenger movies anytime they are on over and over. Hulk and Thor flicks to a lesser degree.
I cant watch any DCEU movie more than once or twice. They just arent very enjoyable. Wonder Woman is on HBO constantly and I would rather watch the news.

Hey, I love the first iron man, GOTG 1 and 2, Hulk, Thor Ragnork, avengers 1, and even winter soldier. But that's about it. The last two iron mans were horrid, the first 2 thor movies put me to sleep, and tie rest were average af.

https://variety.com/2017/biz/news/hollywoods-soaring-marketing-cost-dilemma-1202530305/ ( and this article was a few years ago. Cost have most likely risen since then).Normally the way to get estimates on advertising, marketing and distribution costs is to double the cost of the film.
These costs range from 20 million for a small independent film to around 150+ million for a big block buster. Shazam isnt a small independent film and cost around 100 million to make and the marketing, advertising and distribution costing another 100 million or more is a safe bet. So in my previous post i said Shazams total cost was around 200 - 250 million. There is no issue with my estimate.
Ah I see. I thought you were implying it was particularly high for this film.
From what I understand marketing can be anywhere from 50%-100% of the budget. So id estimate between 50-100mill for a film where they clearly did not want to spend to much on.
Then you have to double that figure to take account of theatre costs.
So id guess this needs anywhere from $300-$400mill to break even. $350mill is probably a reasonable guess.

Again, dont care about the years. Just how they perform. Over at BO forums, almost everyone knows that the dceu performs pretty solid at the BO, even though it gets average to low reviews. But if you count joker, I think that will break out.
Thats fine but they arent on par with the MCU whose Shared Universe has changed cinema, and created a multi-franchise in 4 years which the DCEU has simply failed to match.
And it has gone to new heights ever since. Infinity War went to completely new heights last year. The build up of 10years.
DCEU simply hasnt been good at the world building. They have the odd hit here and there which doesnt rely on Batman and Superman, but the shared universe has not been m received well, as proven with Justice League being their lowest grosser.

Well aside from simply being better than any DCEU film to date, MARVEL could take that risk with a high budget for GOTG, because Marvel themselves had already created their own brand name which the DCEU has failed to do.
SHAZAM has good wom. Definitely my favorite dceu movie thus far.

Apparently the good WOM (and maybe #Hellboy’s tough reviews) helped exhibitors to secure their screenings for #Shazam, as Shazam will start its 2nd weekend this Friday with 4.306 rooms in the US, gaining 40 rooms (instead of losing some what would be natural for many holdovers)

Given time, I think the DCU films will get there. I mean, did anyone expect Aquaman to make 1.1 billion? Once DcU builds up steam, they can get there. Also, looks like people are so psyched for Joker, some think it has changed the game for comic characters to film. Time will tell on that one.
