The second MCU film you've seen in your life, yes?
Spoiler:
And Endgame barely holds up to those heaps of shit.
Meh. I just got out of this and I must say that I feel quite underwhelmed. The run time (and cast size) felt extremely bloated, the plot points seemed very bland and generic. and the
Spoiler:. While there were plenty of things I liked, such as
climax felt like a slightly larger repeat of Infinity War's climax
Spoiler:, it didn't stop me from repeatedly yawning from boredom. I definitely think IW was better.
fat Thor, nerdy Hulk, and Cap wielding Mjolnir
Agreed. The near three hour-long runtime wasn't justified, a lot could've been cut without compromising the story. But my biggest issue with the movie was that I went in expecting
Spoiler:
the Avengers to fight Thanos with the stones. But instead Thanos is killed off in the first act because he got rid of the stones, the second act is a predictable drag, and the third act just devolves into another—less impressive—battle for the stones.
Spoiler:
And it's not like the Avengers couldn't have fought Thanos with the stones. Maelstrom was able to fight Thanos with the Infinity Gems to a standstill with the Quantum Bands—in Quasar #30—which could've easily been given to Captain Marvel in this movie. Thor could've borrowed Odin's power. The Scarlet Witch's could've made a pact with the gods of chaos. Or the Abstracts could've shown up, since their existence was hinted in one of the movies. That's something that hasn't been done before in movies, and virtually no special effects would be off-limits.
To me, the film was just too contrived, and several times I had to remind myself that suspension of disbelief was a necessity for watching this because, despite it's diverse audience, at the end of the day, these are kids films, so the simplistic logic has to be taken at face value. Some of my complaints include:
Spoiler:
- The Soul Stone. Not only is the whole "sacrifice your love" thing just a contrived way to create a emotional dilemma, but we still have no idea what the thing does.
- We see even less of the Infinity Gauntlet in action here than we did in Infinity War.
-How can a metal glove snap?
-WTF happened to the versatility of the Gauntlet? Why do Thanos, Bruce, and Tony need to snap to create effects?
- Speaking of the Gauntlet's versatility, why did Tony sacrifice himself by using all 6 stones to wipe out Thanos' army, when he could have wielded any of the individual stones to do so?
-What exactly is Thanos' plan here? In IW, his half-planet genocide kinda made sense, but his new plan to recreate the universe is nonsensical. Is he going to create a universe with half the resources of the old universe?
These were just some of my nitpicks watching this film.
In order for it to kind of makes sense
Spoiler:
I'd figured Thanos was going to remake the universe with all the sentient being having the same mindset. Thus eliminating any of the pesky reasons that would lead to having to wipe out half of life to fix the universe.I am a little annoyed that the concept of Abstract beings is never touched given that this movie has the perfect setting for them. Also while not a core problem with the film but Rhodey's space armor served no purpose other that to make him look even more like an action figure than the poster

Yes. But I did see the older Marvel movies, the last one I saw prior to Infinity War was either Spider-man 3 or X-Men 3: The Last Stand (whichever came last) but those are apparently not part of the MCU.Spoiler:

You're just being ridiculous now.
Endgame was pretty damn amazing. 9.5/10
A few minor gripes aside, this was a satisfying conclusion to the first era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 11 years of careful, calculated, and dedicated film making has shown us what real comic book movies can achieve for all audiences, old and young, comic book enthusiasts and those who don't read comic books, and just plain people who want to go watch a fun and wild flick and be wowed.
I absolutely can't wait to see what the future holds.
