That's what I've been doing. /shrug

hbo now specifically is bad for films imho. home streaming of new releases should not be part of any package deal. not that i minded watching dune and the suicide squad for no extra charge, but it doesn't seem beneficial for the films

That was honestly one of my biggest questions about streaming this film with HBO Max: how much revenue is the film itself making that way?

The celebration!!

How's victimhood treating you? Well, I hope?

Anyway, in more pressing news:

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s Dune wormed its way to a strong $40.1 million opening at the domestic box office despite facing competition from a dual release in the home.

The Legendary and Warner Bros. sci-fi epic opened simultaneously in 4,125 theaters across North America and on streamer HBO Max, a hybrid practice being used for all 2021 Warner movies because of the pandemic. Dune scored the best domestic opening of any such theatrical/HBO Max release to date, besting Godzilla vs. Kong ($31.7 million).

It also delivered Villeneuve the top domestic opening of his career. His previous biggest was Blade Runner 2049 ($32.8 million), not adjusted for inflation.

Globally, Dune sailed past the $200 million mark after opening previously in earlier markets. Overseas, the movie earned another $47.4 million from 75 markets for a foreign tally of $180.6 million and $220.2 million globally. However, it has a long way to go before recouping its $165 million budget and additional marketing spend

I think it was projected for a $35 million domestic opening, so it seems that it exceeded expectations at $40 million. That's good news.

still can't let it go? sorry/not sorry that my opinion about a movie broke you. moving on indeed...

I'm not the one whose been crying and playing victim for the past 3 pages or whatever. 😂

Zero.

Would be different if it was sent to Netflix or something. They'd at least pay out like 90mill. That'd be too much for HBO to pay to another other studio though.

I mean, the film has to be making *some* sort of profit from HBO, no? I can't imagine them just letting it get streamed for free.

"Finally, HBO Max will pay Warner Brothers a fee for its initial 31-day window for the movie on HBO Max. That money will be shared with profit participants, cast, and crew. Yes, crew members will also take part in this profit share, though there was no detailed breakdown to show who is earning what."

...That at least makes me feel a little better.

refusing to let the issue die because you didn't like someone's opinion, and then gaslighting them over it.
what an overused infantile troll tactic on kmc.

grow up, friend. it's just a f*cking movie

i can only go by anecdotal evidence. I have hbo max, and watched it 3 times, paying nothing. meanwhile the next person also has hbo max, but might easily not give a crap about dune, though they are technicallypaying for it as an add-on. How could any real metrics be applied to this, as a means of proving that dune was more a successful release on hbo than...say...space jam 2?

I have no clue how the payout will work(probably just a lump sum), but can they not monitor how many times the film has been streamed, and give some sort of kick-back based on that figure?

I assume they're keeping close track of streams and new subscriptions. For sure. Otherwise, yeah, there's no other real way to judge it's popularity.

How and when they'll release such information is, I'm sure, quite unclear.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if WB and HBO kept hidden their intentions to produce Part 2, waiting to announce after blu-ray sales and such, just so as many fans as possible will sink as much money into it as possible. Meanwhile giving Villeneuve a nudge behind the scenes to go ahead and prepare. I wouldn't be surprised.

But anyway, I'll expect to be in the dark for a while. I think Villeneuve said they'd know sometime in December.

Oh so they are getting paid something. Still its not financially viable for HBO to pay market value, in that they couldnt offer to buy films from other studios. So the fee they are paying will be a massively discounted one.

Also remember they are not renting this out like Disney plus does. Just showing it for free hoping to get new subscribers who wont cancel after the free month.

You've no clue how much they payed. Anyway, the success for HBO will be determined like almost all of these types of movies/shows, by how many subscribers watch it. WB will likely use that in conjunction with the box office to determine if there is enough demand for a sequel. And, no, HBO is very unlikely to release official streaming numbers to the public. Although estimates by other companies are occasionally released.

i really hope you're wrong, because if you're right then i unwittingly helped greenlight space jam 3, due to the unfortunate timing of my new subscription.

please be wrong.

Watched it again and it was even better the 2nd time

This is an all-timer IMO.

This was done solely for their benefit.

Quit arguing for no reason.
