Palpatine returning in an old comic book was BEFORE the Prequels were made. Which is why the canonicity of all the post ROTJ Comic books and novels was always a bit Iffy.
Lucas giving his permission to use Palpatine really didnt mean much, as he never saw it part of his own canon. That said they brought Palps back at the time because Lucas refused to let writers bring Darth Vader back.
Angry Joe ain't happy.

I mean, it doesn't ruin his redemption no. He still turned good in the end and saved his son, that's what mattered. Also Tom actually wanted to bring back Vader, but Lucas said no, so he instead went with the next best villain.

Thank you both. These are solid points and information. I see no more reason to go over that particular line of thinking.

I also like how throwing an old man down a shaft redeems Anakin from killing all those kids.
This seems an interesting line, though. How much could one perhaps argue for the sway of the Force over an individual's actions?

Xena/Angel living with their sins redemption story
I'm really sad they didn't pick this direction, but again, comicbooks can just bring him back and do it that way since respecting this continuity to the letter is silly
Edit: I have argued in the past that Vader
Spoiler:but ultimately that makes no sense with his savior complex established during the prequels. Since
could also live to make up for his crimes
Spoiler:
Kylo has a very different story arc I could see it working for him

redemption and the hard truth of your crimes, suffering and guilt are strong more christian themes that you chicken out from with timely deaths. At least we know for a fact Disney cannot make a compelling story out of those

Xena/Angel living with their sins redemption story
Some crimes are irredeemable. Living on as a Force Ghost is more than Kylo and Vader deserve.
Considering the supernatural element that Force Ghost bring to the table actually dying is being "easy" on them. They achieve redemption with minimal effort and suffering, without really facing the atrocities they commited.
What we suggest is
Spoiler:, the death solution is actually more sympathetic with a genocidal maniac.
harsher on Kylo
So I guess one of the rebels mentioned something about
Spoiler:
Sidious possibly using a clone. I guess it's possible that his essence was transferred to a clone body upon his death, and the reason his body looks so deteriorated is because it can't handle the power of his spirit? I guess I'll go with that lol. I just wish it was explained better in the movie.
Also I liked how it
Spoiler:
didn't portray Kylo as a ***** for once. He was pretty badass in the first scene of the movie, and he actually beat Rey for once in their lightsaber duel (he knocked her down and looked like he was about to kill her before Leia distracted him). I thought his death was good too. And I'm not too upset about Rey being able to kill Palpatine, since the only reason she was able to do so was because she had the help of all the jedi spirits
So even though I do have a few issues with the movie, I definitely liked it the most out of the sequel trilogy, and I'd say it's better than TPM and AOTC too.

Well in Anakin's defence he does seem to be at odds with his orders somewhat when he's killing those kids IIRC.
Yeah, seemed he had doubt for a second or two and then steeled himself to the task. Could also say killing the kids is when he shed all remnants of Anakin and went full Vader.
I will say that the novel for this book will probably have tons of interesting tidbits to share about Palpatine, Snoke, and maybe Kylo and Reys force bond. I haven’t read the two previous novelizations but this has so much wrong with it, it feel like a book would better explain where the movie failed to
Oh and
Spoiler:
when they blow up one special Death Star Destroyer every other SD will be destroyed as well, even those in different systems. And then Rey will, for some reason, use the power of all the Jedi ever to beat Palpatine who is using all the power of all the Sith ever in a super epic battle even though this is nothing that has ever been foreshadowed before. But it will be cool! It'll be like Avatar: The Last Airbender!
Christ. This was written by a five year old.
The whole film is just full of this shit writing too...
Spoiler:
Rey accidentally uses Sith Lightning because she is secretly a Palpatine and kills Chewbacca (but not really)! The ancient Sith dagger which was presumably made hundreds of years before the Death Star was even made is a map of the Death Star wreckage.
Rey randomly learns super Force Healing! An ability that was only conceived by Darth Plagueis and the absence of which the entire plot of RotS relies upon.
Apparently the Force is no longer an energy field but life force and characters are dying left and right because they use too much of it.

I have to think the fans are lying to themselves. After all, unlike TLJ, there is fun to be had with this movie. But the writing in this is abysmal. It's certainly the worst of any SW film.
Also the horses.....what a random asspull....
Not to mention the

Death Star was blown the phuck up into pieces.....oh let's head back to Luke's island where I will live alone so I wont become a sith. Luke appears you wont become evil now go save the galaxy. Of phuck but I burnt my ship to the ground nevermind let me get you my old X wing from the bottom of the ocean oh and I forgot to tell you I also have one of those sith compass things... which you spent half of the movie looking for...
