Not exactly "retconned", it simply doesn't count anymore. It belongs to Legends continuity.New canon is being done from a scratch; it doesn't borrow too many EU elements.
In Legends continuity, Vader lost power/potential after RotS.
In canon, however, his power only increased after RotS(in fact, he became more powerful than ever), and his injuries never gimped his potential.

Legends SW>>>Disney SWby a large margin
Like Stilt said, the large majority of Disney content(from comics, to novels, to TV shows) is actually quite good... But it has also cranked out quite a bit of trash, obviously.

So why isn't Vader head shoulders and cock above the Emperor in power then?
And given Palpatine's own ungodly potential, that would explain why he was always a notch above Vader.

Are we supposed to fill in the gaps in our head then when it comes to the OT? If Vader was that powerful, would his fight with Obi-Wan not surely be a battle beyond most battles?

Are you talking about their battle in ANH?
Yeah. I mean, even taking in to account the limitations of the actors and the effects at the time, I feel like if it was made now, we'd have more of an energetic fight.

I overstated because it had the stink of Kathleen Kennedy on it. Thank goodness she's out.But I did like "I am one with the force, and the force is one with me."
I really hope the rumours about her trying to **** with the Mandalorian aren't true.

You'd have Yoda vs Dooku level fighting....which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Originally posted by -Pr-Oh absolutely. It would be more in line with that newer fanmade Vader/Kenobi fight on YouTube that cdtm just posted.

But even though the choreography of the OT films was complete shit, we still know the level they were intended to be operating at, thanks to their feats/accolades in current material(especially Vader's feats/accolades.)

Let's not forget about video games:
Cutscenes alone are awesome.
And FO won plenty of awards, too.

Sounds like you're confusing it with the Sequel Trilogy... in which Kennedy was much more involved.
Rogue One doesn't stink, no. Far from it.
All you can smell is the scent of Felicity Jones' pussy when watching it

It was made in 1977, c'mon.
Zombies in Night of the Living Dead were pretty pathetic... but it doesn't mean they were upgraded later in the Romeroverse... the sixties were simply a different time for movies.
Same with ANH and the seventies.

It was always stupid to have Vader nerfed because of that... and at the same time allowing Maul to kick ass in TCW... even though he's gotten literally cut in half.

Do you have that comic scene on hand, the one with Luke explaining the Force and one's potential?
