You know the story of Rumpelstiltskin?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumpelstiltskin
A miller brags to his king that his daughter can spin straw into gold, so the king repeatedly keeps having her spin it or lose her head. If Rumplestiltskin never came along and offered to trade, she'd be dead.
He's treated like the villian, but he didn't really do anything wrong. It wasn't his fault her head was on the chopping block, that's all her own father and king.
And yeah, demanding a first born as payment may seem harsh, but it's a fair bargain. And if he's so evil, he could have simply stuck to the agreement, but he didn't. He altered the terms, giving her a shot at breaking the contract.
The real bad guys essentially got away with it, while Rumplestiltskin paid for being a hard nosed businessman who actually did quite a bit of good, comparatively.
Messed up my lower back. Was lifting something heavy, felt some pain, and six hours and four ibiprofin later its really hurting.
I can get around, its just very tender and stiff. Lower center back, but the part that worries me is the lower left side that sits above the hips and connects with the lower stomach, feeling some pain standing and not sure if squatting will be an issue.
Not looking forward to tommorow morning. Or tonight, I sleep on my side.

How long did it take you to recover enough where you felt safe lifting heavy loads again?
Although right now I'd settle for simply being able to sleep on my side at night without pain.
