Ex-Sanders campaign manager talks unity efforts with Biden backers

Faiz Shakir, the former campaign manager for Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) 2020 White House bid, said recent unity task force proposals to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign represent an opportunity to push the former vice president more to the left, but activists will keep doing the work to hold him “accountable.”

Speaking to Hill.TV’s “Rising” Thursday, Shakir touted proposals such as federal investments in job creation for health care and childcare workers, among other things, as evidence that the groups, made up of both Biden and Sanders backers, had produced substantive suggestions.

“There’s an opportunity. I think you’ve heard Vice President Biden talk about wanting to be the most progressive president, and our task force members put some meat to the bones on that,” he said. “It could be transformative and certainly a kind of a federal role that probably hasn’t occurred in 100 years.” -snip

Good

I have been seeing the ripples of this unity. This is what Biden should do. He needs to move a bit away from his Neo-Lib positions and a bit further to true liberal positions.

I would say he has on a number of issues and makes identity politics a large piece of his platform.

Trump says he takes responsibility over Covid-19 as Biden enjoys large poll lead

I think I’m just not going to vote this time. Don’t like either candidate.

I agree with Backfire, these candidates suck. I also think it's hypocritical to bash Trump for being a racist pervert, but then be cool with Biden who is also apparently a racist pervert just because he isn't Trump. Why not vote Independent?

Because voting independent probably won't get rid of Trump... easy answer.

Call me old fashioned but maybe people can decide which geriatric, racist, mentally ill sex pest they should vote for on the basis of their policy proposals.

Okay but you admit to the hypocrisy though right?

Didn't say you couldn't. I asked why.

It's not hypocrisy if you consider Trump far worse...

I guess. If that's how you see it.

i think it's how a great deal of people see it. I think that number is going to get bigger as Trump plays to his base.

I think it's sad that Biden is the best person the other side could come up with, and that his main draw is that he isn't Trump. I get it. Trump is a terrible human being. No argument there, but if the best you can do is "I'm not Trump," that doesn't say much to your character either.

it means you're not Trump and right now people will take that. Thank god November is coming.

I don’t think he was the best the other side could come up with. I think Yang snd Sanders are both much better. But they both support policy that a lot of people are not familiar/comfortable with so Biden got the support of those people who don’t want any real change to come to America. They just want a president who isn’t Trump while keeping the status quo largely intact.

I'm curious if anyone here actually wants Joe Biden for president as opposed to simply not wanting Trump.
