Merus(an Angel trainee, who is far interior to the likes of Whis) was about to activate his full power against Moro in a combat situation, which is why the GP 'erased' him. He wasn't erased while previously fighting/training Goku, though -- Whis intervened before that happened.

However, Merus was resurrected shortly afterward(albeit in a mortal form)... But I'm still hoping that he is utilized at some point in a master/mentor role(similar to Roshi in that respect, except he has VASTLY more knowledge.) He is too good of a character to waste.

^ Whis resurrected Freeza because Beerus ordered him to do so. In DBS, it seems like Destroyers have almost unlimited authority, and can order their Angel to do whatever they want. That still isn't technically a violation of the "Angel code", however, because the orders are coming directly from the Destroyer -- the Angel isn't doing it independently.

Whis only "helped" against Moro in that he gave Goku a few 'pointers' that were integral to winning. He didn't personally assist Goku during the battle, though... Aside from a casual finger-block:

But again, an Angel only violates the rules/code if they independently powerup to their max during an actual battle... But Whis has never done that. Hell, the guy can KO even Beerus with a casual chop, ffs:

That said, we've only ever seen Whis display a micro-fraction of his full power(even against Beerus)... Never mind his max.

how far is whis above merus then? i assumed that because they were both angels they'd be in the same general tier??

Whis in the scan above stopped Moro full head on blow with a finger, and he wasn't even powered up. Merus was having a hard time with a less powerful version of Moro. Whis finger is more powerful than Merus entire body and that sh**, is scary. Whis should be able to slap Galactus out of existence with a fraction of his power. Whis is scary powerful, and his sister is even more powerful. Whis imo would be an abstract entity in Marvel.

...And judging by the ease in which Whis casually trounced MUI Goku, there are clearly a lot of "0's" between each level of mastery, if you want to view it from a powerlevel perspective. /shrug

But again, current MUI Goku(and therefore Merus) aren't even remotely comparable to Beerus... Never mind Whis, who can, with almost no effort, KO Beerus with a single chop.

TBH, I think Goku and Vegeta (and whomever else) she never be able to surpass or even get on Whis level. First, the level of Whis is just too great and it just wouldn't be realistic. Second, it would make the purpose of Whis pointless. Seems like the Angel's of each Universe is>than anyone in the Universe they are looking over.

Angel trainee =/= Angel Guide.

Same as God of Destruction candidate =/= bona fide God of Destruction.

Or Padawan =/= Jedi Knight =/= Jedi Master, using Star Wars as an example.

Think of Anakin murdering children in RotS, that's how easy it would be for Whis to deal with Merus 😛

Forget about Whis, they still haven't reached Beerus' level and it's probably not going to happen any time soon, if it happens at all.

Beerus keeps getting nonsensical power upgrades/retcons off-panel/off-screen, but it is what it is. As long as Tori (and Galan) wants him to remain the top dog GoD, it's not going to change.

The Saiyans currently aren't even close to Black Freeza's level, never mind Beerus... But even IF they legitimately do become powerful enough to surpass Beerus, Whis is still tierS above even that.

do you think there's still any merit to toryama's scaling that put whis at a 15, beerus at a 10, and ssjg goku at a 6?

Sure there is... just replace "ssjg" with "mui" and it'll still be accurate 😂

Tori will keep upscaling the power of Beerus and Whis accordingly as the story goes, that's been his whole idea for DBS so far.

The scaling can still work, if you assume there is a huge/exponential gap between the designated values. For example, if n00b-SSG Goku was a 6, current UI Goku might only be a 7.5(relative to Beerus's 10, and Whis's 15, I mean.)

IOW, any holes can be filled if you use enough lube try hard enough. 🙂

Wonder if Beerus long sleeps are part of his training. There are instances in DragonBall where characters meditate/rest while training and becoming stronger.

I seriously doubt it, Galan... it's just Toriyama's lifestyle - same with the overeating thing.
