Morrison probably really is beating to his own drum, but Ennis I suspect just likes pushing buttons.
His Superman love shows him as an idealist, can't fault him if he hates the anti-heroes and anti-villians that flooded us in the 90's (And the fanboys who enable them) and been with us ever since.

It is no wonder readers much prefer manga these days given that they are stories plotted out by usually a single person or a small group with characters that are allowed to actually change and have their own character arcs with central themes binding them together and without having to shoehorn stupid crossover events where you have to read eight different titles to get the full stupid story. The most popular manga still aren't usually the best examples of the medium (Demon Slayer is very average imo) but it's still far easier to get into and much more coherent than trying to get into whatever random capeshit series you can mention.
DC and Marvel have some great stories that can rival literature (not Thor though) and Superman in particular is just about my favorite character ever, and the best thing that could happen to him is for DC to be nuked from orbit and for him to enter the public domain. Same with any of the iconic heroes from these companies. They should belong to the people.

I still get headaches thinking about his New 52 Mxy story, why would Mxy's kid say the backwards name of his greatest enemy? What did it mean, that his wife slept with Vyndktvyx? Or was it a metaphor for Ferlin only existing as a weapon against Vyndktvyx?
