He was building the antimatter canon to pierce into the netherverse where he could not get to and destroy the final universes that Monitor and Harbinger had hid away and fortified there.

It was destroyed and never used.

Thor had ballooned to multiverse threat levels actually. Something crazy happens in Marvel when you mix the Power Cosmic with magic, the more ancient or potent the magic the more monstrous the Power Cosmic becomes. Cosmic King Thor was cray cray powerful, able to resist assaults from a dimension eating entity and able to deal massive amounts of damage.
