i think that they will use the time tuner that hermione used in book 3 and just turen it a ton of times and make dumbledore go to bellatrix and then dumbledore kill bellatrix with her own spell that he deflected her way(so he wouldnt be charged with murder by the minisrty of magic) and then they all wait untill voldemort comes and then they all gang up on him!!! Another, totally different theory...
First, I am German and as English is not my mother tongue, please excuse my mistakes...
Okay, what about that:
Sirius was in the original and current Order of the Phoenix so he had to know about the prophecy, about that Harry has to kill Voldemort. And if nobody in the Order told him about the prophecy I'm sure Harry's Dad did, as it was his son the prophecy was about and as he surely needed advice from a good friend...so Sirius knew. And then, he had to hide in Grimmauld place because the Ministry and Voldemort's followers were after him (and knew he was an Animagus). So you'll agree with me that Sirius ALWAYS risked everything to make sure Harry was safe?! But in Grimmauld place he had a lot of time to realise Harry wasn't safe at all, because of the prophecy and that he couldn't do anything to rescue or help him as he had to hide in his dear mother's house. So why not fake his death in front of the Death Eaters?! And then changing his appereance (polyjuice, a charm, an Animagus but not a dog...it's never said people just can turn into one animal...he had a lot of time to work it out and his knowledge on charms should be bigger than in his 5th year at Hogwarts..., remember, it's his COUSIN who's an metamorphmagus..there are a lot of possibilities...) And when he changed his appereance why not join the Death Eaters?! I mean, it's the only possibility to protect Harry, to know about Voldemort's steps, to be at the battlefield and to be ready to turn to his original side at the right moment.
I think that's a good explanation why Sirius should fake his death because it would make sense. In his current position he can't do anything to protect Harry and that's all he wants to do. That's why he could manage to escape from Azkaban, that's why he ate rats and that's why he risked to be caught again.
But I can't give an explanation about that entire "veil story" because, yeah, we don't know the meaning of the veil. If the veil just leads to the how-do-you-call-it afterworld (?) than my theory wouldn't make sense. But we don't know, do we?!

But when I made up that theory I didn't thought about the importance of the veil...I have to admit that I didn't know the German translation of "veil" and so I ignored it completely... And know I think the veil IS really important, not just a thing to hide behind! The questions are now "Where does the veil lead to?" and "Is there a way to return as a human (not as a ghost or without a body etc.)?"
And have you thought about that Bellatrix is Sirius's cousin? I mean there're already a lot of "in his veins is the same blood as in blablabla..."-stories, so we shouldn't ignore that completely, should we?!
Oh and we definetely DON'T know which colour the 2nd jet of light had:

I started crying when Sirius died... I was really upset... I think that he will come back and communicated with Harry in some way. You never know though, JK has a mysterious way with words.. she could be tricking everyone by what she says... so that people will think he's dead for good. I guess there is just no sure way to know until the last two books. JK Rowling is absolutely brilliant.
Sirius is one of my favorite characters. I think he will come back but I also think that he is gone. The reason why I think he will come back is because J.K. Rowlings says that Sirius will come back but she could be lying. And I think he is gone because in the 5 book, with Dumbledore and Harry talking about his scar, before they did talk about his scar, um....Sirius's great-great-grandfather, asked Dumbledore if he was really died and Dumbledore said yes, would Dumbledore lie to a relative of Sirius Black?
Ahem...sorry, but when and where did Rowling say that Sirius will come back?! I read an interview with her in which she says that Sirius' death is real and final. But if she really said what you said - Yeeppeeeeeeeeee!!!
In my opinion, if Sirius comes back it will be a surprise for everyone, also for Dumbledore and Lupin who both said Sirius is dead.
Let me sum up the facts:
- Sirius was hit by the second jet of light Bellatrix shot on him.
- It isn't said which spell Bellatrix used
- It isn't said which colour the jet of light had
- He fell backwards, "his eyes widened in shock", we don't know if he was already dead or just petrified
- He fell through the mysterious veil, which "fluttered for a moment in a high wind"
- Harry and Luna can hear voices behind the veil
- The veil attracted Harry, he forgot what he was there for
- Luna claims that Harry can talk to Sirius again through the veil
- Bellatrix, Dumbledore and Lupin claim that Sirius is dead
Hi! Now I don't know whether any of you mentioned it yet, I was trying to read the whole thread before posting, but I only made it through about 8 pages. There was someone who actually brought up the theory that Sirius might have disapparated. Except for the fact that there would have been that loud crack, I am not sure Sirius could even apparate, I mean we have never actually witnessed him doing that. And plus his eyes where "widened in shock" and "Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfather's (...) face". So he couldn't have staged his death. And another thing -somebody already said it but RoseBloom almost killed him/her for that- Sirius could not have been hit by Avada Kedavra because he would have been dead instantly, no time even for his eyes to widen. And Harry thought he had just fallen through the veil. As he knew about the Unforgivable Curses, he would have recognized the killing curse and thus it couldn't have been Avada Kedavra. Meaning that Sirius might still be alive beyond the veil or whatever. Anyway he is gone for now though I really do hope he will come back cause it's as if Harry lost any family he had all over again. I actually cried at the thought of this and if Harry has to suffer any more tragic losses, I am not going to read this book any more...okay I'll do it anyway, but I'm trying to make a point here. Now, I think I wrote too much.
Whoa whoa whoa. Who says that the veil killed Sirius? I am not saying that is isn't possible, but if the curse didn't kill him (which I don't think it did) does that mean that when someone passes through the veil then they are dead automatically? Sounds logical enough. Something that I don't get is that wasn' Bellatrix tring to hit Sirius with a stunner? (If it wasn't bear with me here, I read the book once and that was WAY back in summer.) Anyway, I totally don't think that he apparted out of there, and I really don't think Sirius is on the run. Shame on whoever said that, I can't remember their name but it still angers me so.
I am not sure whether the people who fell beyond the veil are automatically dead, but maybe they're "trapped" and can't come back. Regarding the veil...what do you think about that: Luna and Harry can hear voices behind the veil because behind the veil are dead/trapped/whatever people who call them?! For Luna it would be her mother who's calling her and for Harry his parents.
Okay, I think my next theory's a bit far fetched...
According to that, Harry's parents are beyond the veil too. Maybe they try to push Sirius back in the "normal world" so that he can keep on helping Harry?! okay, it's really far fetched...but what do you think about the voices behind the veil?!
i dunno....that is FAR FETCHED........ i think EVERYONE can hear the voices MAYBE.... b/c I thought Hermoine said it sounded creepy or something....... I dunno........UNLESS it's a type of Wizard Graveyard....BUT then again...Harry saw the graveyard in GOF. So who knows there...........
I doubt his parents are back there though......... and LUNA said.....you hear the VOICES....maybe its some other ability you can hear if something has happened to you...like seeing thestrals.
No...look, Luna said to Harry that she could talk to her DEAD mother through the veil. So her mother has to be behind the veil. Hearing the voices could be an ability...I don't think people need to see someone dying to hear the voices - Neville saw his grandfather dying but couldn't hear the voices. I reckon people can only hear the voices if they lost someone they really loved/someone who really loved them. Harry/Lily&James and Luna/Luna's mother was problably a very strong love. But Neville/his grandfather?! He probably liked his grandfather/his grandfather probably liked him but I don't think that a grandchild/grandfather love is a strong as the love between parents and their children. And I reckon the relationship between Harry and Sirius was very strong, regarding what both risked to save the life of each other.
That leads me to believe Luna and Harry could hear the voices because persons who loved them a lot were calling them. Maybe they don't hear them with their ears but with their hearts....I don't know!
