Silver Surfer vs Thor

He wasn't really made to look like a big star or anything though.

Except for that one moment where he actually seemed to damage Chaos King a little with a lightning bolt, and the latter was dwarfing planets at the time, along with Hercules.

I noticed it up until the film was actually released, actually. He had tons of one shots and minis being released followed by the news of relaunched Journey into Mystery and the new Mighty Thor series.

Agree..
Plus he's in the currently running, Avengers: EMH
And he had a dvd movie that just came out a month ago, Thor: Tales of Asgard
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there's a Thor animated series coming out in the near future as well....

I gotta say, I'm a bit pissed with all of the delays. Anyways, whatever happens next with Odin vs. Galactus will settle a few debates. Or at least shut a few people up for a while.

The dialogue Fraction gives to these supposed "cosmic beings" is laughable... Almost unreadable.

It's like he is going out of his way to do it too.

DEM COSMIC PRICKS

It's like he's trying to become the new Bendis or something. I don't get it.

It's funny to read the dialogue aloud, but as a Thor fan, it's also really off putting. I mean, Fraction has Thor and Odin call people "bastards" and "asses" every issue.

I mean he has the right to put his own take on the characters but I dont know what he is doing it's like he thinks he is written someone else.

Ya, phrases like: "pompous overblown ass" shouldn't be in Surfer's vocabulary. I also found it laughable that Fraction had Galactus say "you first" in response to Odin telling him to stop mucking with his mind.... Feel like it's the early 90's and I'm watching Lethal Weapon or something. 👇

Just wait; in the next issue, Galactus calls Squirrel girl a "flat-assed cock-jockey" before she kills him.

They were both in extreme pain. Thor was clutching his face, Surfer was on his knees. Both are simply reactions to extreme stimuli. They simply reacted differently to it. One is on his knees, the other is clutching his face in pain. Again, ppl who feel pain often react in different ways (ppl punched in the stomach double over in pain, ppl who get burned in the face often clutch it in agony).

Second panel. The art shows the emanating white light centered on the "Surfer's" gesturing hand.

No need to hate on Surfer so much, man. They both peers.

Perhaps but in comics from what I've seen when two beings are attacked by the same weapon/blast/energy etc. the one standing is usually tougher then the one on his knees.

Are you talking about this:

That's just lighting or whatever. Tbh, if the glare is indicative of the origin point, Rachel would be the creator more then anything as she's in the center and not Surfer or Thor (He has his arm in there as well). Although I still don't think it means anything.

I'm not hating. I do get annoyed by all those idiots who think he should beat up Thor or something.

Not always the case, TBH. Also, when artists/writers want to show one character's superiority over the other (especially established ones like Thor and Surfer), they tend to be entirely clear about it. From what was shown, it really looks like they were both shown as suffering just as mich pain from the other. This is just too arguable and too open to interpretation for that to be the case, tho.

Surfer's hand is actually the exact center. He's also gesturing with it using the "peace sign" gesture which is usually indicative of when a character uses an (non-offensive/exotic) ability.

Too clarify, tho, I also believe that Thor would beat Surfer in a fight. Not due to being overwhelminglu more poweful, tho. But due to his how his powerset gives him advantages vs the Surfer's powerset. Mjolnir makes a very effective defensive tool vs Surfer's blasts and being close enough in speed to close the distance, he can almost always force a melee battle (which isn't Surfer's forte). The only way I see Surfer win would be to go extremely exotic or extremely brutal (which does not mesh well with Surfer's usually pacifistic nature and his seeming man-crush with Thor).

But it happens often enough that based on the evidence, you can hardly fault someone for coming to the conclusion that Thor looked better then Surfer. How is it not clear when Surfer is on his knees doubled over while Thor is on his feet? And it's hardly a surprise, I've always regarded Thor as the tougher of the two. Fraction implied the same during their fight as well.

Surfer's no more at the dead center then Rachel is and if the light is emanating from anyone, it's from her. But like I said, I don't think that means anything and it's most likely just lighting effects.

I don't believe Thor is overwhelmingly more powerful then Surfer outside of the God Blast to be clear.

Surfer has a man crush on Thor? What gave you that impression?

Thor wins against Surfer until he loses against Surfer. End of story.

Thor should never lose to Norrin.

Even if they fight three times and Thor wins twice and Surfer wins once, people will run with it as conclusive evidence that Norrin beats Thor for a majority. A win over Thor would be like raining crack for junkies.

I assume that it's going to happen at some point lol. Granted it hasn't yet in multiple decades, but still. Law of averages and all... Janus will be phucking insufferable after that occurs.

When I read that recent Thor annual I didn't get a sense that either characters were superior to the other. Not even slightly. I didn't get that sense either when I read Fraction's Mighty Thor.
