why are you an atheist?

Started by HiddenPotential52 pages

When I started this thread I was feeling very religious and of course I came off that way, but I have changed my feelings towards religion.

Also let me go ahead and say that I believe that their could be a God, I respect others who believe in a God.

I believe Jesus was a good man, a man to who we should be like whenever its possible. However I am not down with everything in the new testament and dont claim to be a christian because of that.

I have grown up in a christian church, and know that almost everyone Is a hypocrite that claims to be religious, so I understand why people think Its crap, Because it is for the most part. But it dosent have to be, people dont have to be half-ass christians, and christianity if exercised properly dosent have any negative effects on me, so I dont have a problem with it.

I do have a problem with wannabe christians however.

The thread content is mainly too vacuous to be momentous with opinions 😬

yeah cause those of christian faith is really open minded 😂 😂 😆 hysterical

Actually, we are. Not is.

If you stated an objective fact, why did you make it your signature? A normal person says, maybe "you dirty bastard". However, they say this because it's a fact. If they have their bumper sticker as "Peter you dirty bastard" then they would be making a low attack. I don't mind facts. Lets see, dirty secrets... I got my clothes wet in a park one day and my mum convinced me that going in a towel that covered about half of my front would be a brill idea. I once had a pack lunch of cold bacon sandwiches, that I hated enough to start a micro-culture behind a big cupboard. The bacon sandwiches stopped after my teacher discovered the dastardly things. Facts I don’t mind

What I find annoying is that you have decided that it’s a fact that you are not only going to annoy me with, but are also going to state as a bad factor of my character, and to further annoy me, put it in your signature. Facts I don’t mind. But hits to the stomach that have the extra joy of being endless markers I don’t like. I try to change myself, if I have a fault. I bring huge towels to pools now, I choose my own food. But I suppose the one thing I don’t like is a label. You state a fact, then you repeat it hundreds of times to annoy me.

Take of the label, and all my fury will go puff. Sorry, but your “fact” is not an appropriate one to spread on the news-sheets. Just tell me if I go stupidly disagree mental. Don’t have it as your catch phrase. Understand?

Turbo-cajun, Finti, waiting for your reply...

- Breaking the ten comandments repeatedly
most chrisitans do that all the time, oh an those commandments have been altered a bit over time, so which 10 do we talk about. Those of the hebrew textures, those of King James bible or the new one that suiots todays situation.

what?, a reply to your rambling of changing an attitude towards religion, that you were strong in your faith and during a lapse of a forthnight you loose a bit of that faith.

I dont know what you expect me to say... I'm glad your fed up with half assed christians and im glad your not one?

I'm fed up with them too. I was raised up in family where religion is important too... I've gone to a lot of church. I know what you are talking about.

Just because Christians think they've found this truth, this answer in life, this myth of a God, and of a messiah born of a virgin, and of a holy spirit, and this and that and what ever other images they draw on to make the story interesting does not make it correct, not any more correct than any other religion out there. There are thousands of other systems of beleif and other religous world views out there. Many of these views are not contradictory to one another, or are accepted as being equally true to one another. Christianity is different. It is the one and only truth, all other religious interpretations are false. If you do not beleive in God the Father and Jesus and the mother Mary, etc you are heathens, you are disbelievers, you are false and you are wrong. Pagans. Christians often times seem to believe they have this duty to go out and save souls, convert people to the way of Christ. Many of us who don't believe wish that Christians would be more respectful, less exclusive, and less judgmental of other religions.

I respect Christians right to have a different religion... I just dont really respect a religion though that disrespects everyone else's.

I hope I answered your question.

It seems that most religions are disrespectful of others.......

Islam and Christianity, especially the radical aspects, are the worst... by far. There are a lot of indigenous beliefs which do not judge other beliefs as true or false.... they accept each others beliefs as the beliefs that the creator gave to their people. The beleifs are different, but they didnt attack people because of this. They shared stories of creation and of different parts of their beliefs and were able to coexist together peacefully, or at least avoid fighting over religious differences.

Right, there are some.....

Just not a lot, judging from the religious based killing in the world.

Well I dont think their will be any killing from the christians ever again.

But those crazy mormons might...
thats another thread

mormons are christians

"We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense....Myself and hundreds of the Elders around me have seen its pomp, parade, and glory; and what is it? It is a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; and the Devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century."( Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, page 167 - 1858)

*Sigh*

very much like how the protestant looked at the Vatican like that during the period of reformation.

Mormonism isn't good because that guy who started it had a vision? Sounds familiar......

im an atheist because i dont believe in god..lol, why do i not believe in god, because no one has any proof what so ever, nor can anyone give me an argument that i cannnot pick apart, simply because the whole of the christian belief in god is based upon a book filled with so many contridictions as well it is all just simply opinion and backed up with no facts....i need poof or at least a valid argument from someone in order to accept that i might be true, unfortunatly i have never heard an argument that i couldent pick apart....if some could do it then yes i would accept the possibility of a "god" as for now..i have no reason to

Good answer, I would have said pretty much something along those lines, but seriously, if you need 'poof', go find one. 😗

I couldn't resist, I am a bad person

I like bad people. They're more interesting, and love to have a little fun.

Oh...yea...that was way off topic. um...im athiest because I want to be. I shouldn't need another reason. But, if someone is going to argue with me, I'd say I'm athiest because I need proof to believe something is real. See it, smell it, taste it, hear it, feel it, SOMEthing.

I agree with that, but I did see something the other day that made me think,

"Some things need to be believed to be seen"

Made me think of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell 🙄

Do you care to explain what that thing is? Or you going to make me spend the rest of my life in a hole of curiosity?
