Have any of you ever known a sex offender? the one I met was 13 he had been abused his whole childhood (heck he was still a kid) well they are trying to put him in jail and throw away the key. He needs counceling not jail time (he abused at 11 -- and just now went to trial)
most sex offenders have been abused themselves or suffers from mental disorders. it's been proven that if only people who feel the need to molest a child have been given the opportunity for anonymous talks and later professional therapy, many of these will never develope into paedophiles (example from a uk project.) also children who have been molested should get better help.
but then again, this is a way to avoid (most) people turning into child molesters. I'm not quite sure how to deal with them when the crime's already happened, since surveilance and life time imprisonment's just too expensive to be realistic.
maybe there should just be more dull, rusty knives involved in their sentence ....
