Middle eastern Terrorist mentality towards United states citizens is that if you live in a democracy, and you claim that the gov't is of the people and by the people, then you are responsible for the actions of your government. Thus they attack "the people" rather than the representatives of the people.
After years of american government involvement in the policies and conflicts of middle eastern nations, the terrorists decided to go after "the people" that they feel are responsible.
I do not support this mentality, however I see the point that they are trying to make. I think that is what Zero was trying to do PVS, not condone their actions, but say that there is more to these attacks than just "We hate america and their freedom" which is GW's take on the whole situation.

I am just trying to listen to these terrorists to see what their motivations are, and that is the same thing they keep coming back to. If someone is trying to kill me, I wanna know why, whether it's fact or not it's what many of them believe, so it is a reality to them. A reality that we all have to deal with.
