After jesus came he turned faith around in many ways. You have heard he said it was written an eye for and eye a tooth for a tooth but i tell you if soemone hits you turn the other cheeck? there are many examples where jesus made his teachings set apart from that of the old testament. Jesus basically said that is how it was then but this is how it is NOW. As a chrsitian i think you are called to walk as it is NOW. And i will use that emaple once more time when jesus told the people that were going to stone a sinner those of you who have not sinned cast the first stone. The scripture about killing witches and gays meet a obvios confrontation with what jesus teaches. So a person of christian faith i would believe then should pay close attention to jesus' teachings.

MC if a church promotes hatred take heart that promotion is not from a teaching of christ.
As for the Bible like i said ealier jesus in the bible does not promote this hatred but rather speaks against it. He spoke out openly against the teachers of the law at the time for being very legalistic and for being so self righteos and not of mercy and love and giving.

Well the main point of all these posts is why people have to critisize someone for being a christian. You are entitled to your opinion about jesus. But if there are people who believe jesus was who he said he was and follow him that is their faith. Is there something positive that comes from smearing someones belief?

Finti the answer is within the your post itself. Jesus and Hitler are contrasted as one that taught hate and the other that did not.
They are contarsted in one preached for the death of all of one race where as the other taught of mercy and giving and to hold a hand out to everyone and not to give in to hate. You can not compare people who follow jesus and the people that followed Hitler.

what my point is was one person stood for peace and love the otehr stood for hate and destruction. When following Jesus you are following someone who is teaching peace and love and when you follow Hitler you are following someone who stands for hate and destruction.
So one is productive to society if followed correctly and the other is destructive to society if followed how taught. That makes a huge differnece.
About it being right or not is up to you. And its up to the person who believes in it. A faith can be productive and help society or can be damaging and harmfull. Christianity when followed according to is teachings is productive and helpfull while in contrast that of a nazi is not.

Martin Luther King was a minister. Martin Luther King could have very well changed the future for the united states of america. He stood up agaisnt racism but did it peacefully and warned people of the black community against hate and violence. He also said if anyone wanted to be great he had to serve. This is a well know teaching of christ He was all about making society better and safer. Martin Luther King was a christian.

Mother teresa- by the time she had passed away she was operating more than 517 mission in many countries. She wanted to help those that other people did not want to. She showed mercy love and reached out as far as she could to people in despair. She belived in jesus.

I can give you many more names you can recognize if you wish but i know you can think of a few yourself. These people followed what jesus spoke about love mercy and giving positivley to society. They are just more of the widley known examples. These actions of theirs was walking according to teachings of jesus.
I will say as well though too there are many people of faith that do their best everyday. There are many christian charaties and there are many christians that do their best to love their neighbor as themselves on a daily basis. When followed as directed the christian way of life can bring blessings to everyone around the world and has done so in many instances.

That is the way of things. It is wether the direction and ideology of the leader that makes them a good or bad leader. It is EVERYTHING to the point what type of ideology they teach.

Well I think religion does help some people.. but I think it has caused more problems than it has helped.

Wait.. isn't the bible supposed to be the word of God? So God at first said put homosexuals to death, but than jesus taught to turn the other cheek? Does that mean God was wrong and Jesus set things right, or God was right and Jesus told people to defy him? When was it ever ok to kill homosexuals?

Afro Cheese the main point is that the christian faith does not promote hate and when followed correctly is productive to society. Because someone came along and pushed faith further along then it was before is not a bad thing. The people at the time where racing around worried about legalistic matters that they could never live up to. It was time for a savior to come. The years and years before jesus to me shows that it is impossible for man to live correctly and treat eachother with love and respect without making folly. Let those things in the old testement be a message as to how much they needed someone like jesus. They did their best with the prophets and the like and they served their purpose at the time but it is my belief that they could never fill the shoes of the one they prophesized about who would come jesus. It is my belief he was the answer to confusion. Of course when you have gods spirit fully in a man he is going to teach differently than someone else. It is my belief there was a relationship between god and man in the old testement but one wich man failed constantly. It was time for god to come down as a man himself and get things straight so to speak is my belief.

people cause problems. People will always find reasons to kill eachother. If they can hide behind a religeon they will. But if you look at the root of the religeon in particular is it there to cause problems or to solve them?

the bottom line is some christians are assh*les and use the religion as a scapegoat but people of all race, color, and religion are like that.....but instead of people looking at that person and saying "that guys is a prick!" they say "christians are assh*les!"....why not say "hey that guy is white, or irish and he's a homophobe so all irsh crackers must die!!!!!!!"...if your goning to generalise you might as well go the whole 9 nine yards....i was raised to be a catholic i still consider myself a catholic but i dont go around thinking gays dont have rights or abortions are the devil
