if there is no religion, what would people listen to?? Many sects and cults would develop and we know what happened 60 years ago! Free thinking and gudience from a higher power is needed to become a good person. I think a world of no religion would not lead to greaer things.
dont look for other people to listen to....be in control of your own life
without religion..more people would get on and unite
deano, can you please stop this? this isnt a debate thread.
its a thread about the pope's death. if you feel like argueing anything about him then make a thread.
some people really liked him and are very bummed out, and you are just being far beyond rude in keeping this nonesense going. please have an ounce of respect and at least have the decency to leave it out of THIS thread.

i liked him too...
freedom of speech...
oh and well done for starting another argument
What Milla said earlier is true.
Existance real or not, all religions leaders and all religions in general have the same ideals. That being unconditional love, respect and truth to all humanity, and the spirit there of.
When people figured that they could use it to control, manipulate and rob the world, the corruption happened.
The point I was making that kicked all this off, was that someone (Syren I believe) said "show some respect". When I don't believe respect is due, directly anyway. From me.

AC, i understand.
you are not obligated to show respect to him.
but as a member of this community you and others have
a moral obligation to have respect for your peers here, many people here are really sad about this and this thread is just so that they can voice it. why cant you just make a thread about your views on the pope and leave it out of this one? nobody is telling anyone to stfu, just to take the petty debates out of this thread.
why is that such an unthinkable request?
Well, Marx said it best when he called religion the opiate of the masses. Whomever it was that said believing in god doesn't equate to being brainwashed was correct. I have said it many times, there is nothing wrong with god. God doesn't make people ignorant, their inability to see past their religion does, however. There can be little argument that the only speed bump in religions are the people who practice it. Not all christians are incapable of getting past certain hypocritical ideologies in their organized religion. The same is true for muslims, hindus ect.
I have taken into consideration the facts set forth by the bible, by Jesus and his followers. I have taken those truths and developed my own ideology. I have not taken what I'm told at face value and run with it, I have analyzed it and come to my own conclusions. I have developed a personal relationship with a greater being than I. I do not subscribe to the christian idea of god. I don't even think that he cares that I exist or what goes on in my life. I believe in destiny. That belief helps to confirm my idea of god.
The only thing that have come from organized religion are the forced ideals of others on those who don't want them. The humans, unispired humans at that, that wrote the bible included a rule that says that the non believers should be converted. This is a huge aspect in the sucess of christianity.
As for the Pope, I have little to say. I totally disagree with his views and his ideas for the world. However, I respect him for his devotion to his ideology. He believed in his doctrine and never swayed. He made a huge impact on the political world. And he did a lot of good in the world for people. Unfortunately, his efforts can only effect those who live their life in a manner with which his church agrees. But, he was a great man; and the world is worse off without him.
Can't exactly say that I believe the entire world is worse because the Pope died, far from it.
However I agree with what you said about God. Nothing wrong with believing in God, believe in God all you want if it makes you happy. Just don't believe in religion to the point that it sucks the joy of life out of you.
The Pope was, I agree, one of the very few men left who truly believed in the purpose. That being what I said in previous post.
