Yes its so popular that it has NEVER EVER been shown on terrestrial televison in the UK. You have to get sky sports and even then its on the 7th channel down! Also, its never in ANY of the newspapers.Hardly a 'popular' sport over here....

It's an expensive sport to carry on national television...

Also, the British don't read... haha... that's funny.

To us in Europe American Football is a dis-jointed affair played by big guys who need more padding than Joan Cillons, lots of make-up (those funny stripes they paint on to look hard- ooh scary!) and no real fitness level due to the constant breaks to allow TV advertising to ruin the whole game.

To us in Europe Rugby Union (and League) is played by super fit guys who need no real protection and who can get battered, clattered, punched and run constantly for 80 minutes with only a short break in the middle. The team work involved is immense and it stirs real emotion to see players protecting their team mates at all costs.

So, would an American Footbal team beat a Rugby team at Rugby? Absolutely not, never, it's just not possible.

So, would an American Football team beat a Rugby team at American Football? I'm guessing here but I would say it's not likely once the rugby players have spent 5 minutes (maybe 6🙂) reading up on the rules and making up a basic strategy.

yes i did find that off the net 🙂

That's because our players have skill... we actually respect our players enough to want to see them not paralyzed. The breaks are needed because there is actual strategy to the game and the intensity level is that much higher.

I was slightly moved by the last sentence... except American Football also has this effect.

Maybe. But they probably aren't going to play that sport because it's not worth their efforts.

Again... the British don't read.

1. We already proved the padding is because the hits are much harder.

2. The stripes are more than aesthetic, they protect against the glare of the sun. "Because black attracts heat and light so by placing the black lines under there eyes it keeps the sun out of there eyes"

3. The commercial breaks only come when the production team knows there will be a break in play. American Football has more rules and the commercial breaks allow sufficient time for the offensive players and the defensive players to switch up. It keeps us from needing to watch this boring transition.

4. Football has this same team play. It's a TEAM SPORT you dolt. They do all they can to protect their fellow teammate.

5. You have no proof that a Football team can not beat a Rugby team at Rugby, you are just going by personal preference.

6. You have no proof that a Rugby team can beat a Football team at Football, you are just going by personal preference.

With this post you have proven yourself to be more ignorant than I originally thought. You know nothing of the game of football and yet you try to put the sport down by making baseless comments on face paint and padding. Go read up before trying to debate, get the **** out of this thread.

Aren't we the ones driving the hybrid cars? Your country is smaller, of course your pollution covered footprint is going to be smaller.

You may have watched a game of Football, but you still don't know shit about it, your argument is still moot.

I thought they didn't televise football in England? Or is your uncle an American? So you hate your uncle now? Which is it?

Truce, but we win because we backed up things we said and didn't blow hot air.

You sure changed your tune really quick...

By the way... I don't really hate the British... I just hate dumb****s that come into other people's threads to start shit and then leave with their tail between their legs begging for truce. I hate fake people even more... because if you really liked rugby as much as you professed, you would stick to your guns and not suddently say "there can't really be a better game."

GO AWAY!

Then why'd you even try to debate? You came into our thread bashing the sport that we love and didn't expect us to defend it? Go to bed, you can't sleep through tea and crumpets time tomorrow. dopedfu

I wanted to add a thought to this... the game of football is also a game of inches the unit that makes up a foot...
