I just rewatched that sequence, and you are partly right. Squall does get knocked back, but it appears more to be out of the angle of the attack then because of its force, meaning it was a glancing blow. In any case, a broken guard does not a beat down make. They were clashing evenly the entire time, even with the mutual knockback. Sephiroth simply recovered in a more timely fashion, allowing him to use the blade beam. Gen did not take the hit, either, Jecht did. Gen jumped out of the way before it struck.
but in all, its irrelevant - im pretty sure dissidia is not canon..

Dissidia is canon in the fact that it occurred, but it still remains irrelevent as the universe these characters can do in their universes. Dissidia did happen, but the only game it really affects is FF I, and to a very minor degree FF V, as Garland is apparently the reason Omega was in the Interdimensional rift.
Squall may have been a SeeD at the age of 17 give him credit for that but Cloud has a more screwed up past, and thats what makes him stronger, later in the game your learn that before the games start that Cloud and Zack were experimented on, Zack a SOLDIER 1st class and a Shinra guard, Cloud Jenova cells were put into them both thanks to Hojo, clouds body you can say was enhanced. by the start of the game he was just as strong and as skilled as zack thanks to the memories the Jenova cells gave him and being dosed in MAKO, he wasent in SOLDIER but he was just as strong as one of 1st class
Squall normal human merc with social problems
Cloud warped super SOLDIER/ failed Sephiroth clone suffering from identity theft
SOLDIER beats SeeD

Did he? Wow, that is kind of a fail, then, as his information really just puts Squall in better light, if we are even willing to entertain the idea that Squall is just some barely peak human, and yet he was able to defeat Ultimecia.
Meh to be honest i know the feeling of wanting Cloud to win, because of the two i liked ff7 more. And i thought Cloud was a better main protagonist. But, i don't see any real reason he would/should win this.
That and David Boreanaz voiced Squall in Kingdom Hearts =) Very important and relevant information.
im sure that creates a plot hole or 3 somewhere, but whatever, ill accept that
Not really. The characters were put back in to their universes at the same moment they were removed, so it's as if they were never gone. FF I is the only game it significantly added to, and because that game had no back story, or even really a present story, there is nothing to be contradicted.
For the record, Ultimecia's final form would beat the shit out of Sephiroth's.
Ultimecia's final form could defeat anything, given that she is compressing all of reality(IE: time, space, other universes) into an extension of herself.

Neo ExDeath is about her level, and Chaos from Dissidia is stronger, even by feats.
Not counting the countless beings in fiction who could slaughter her.

[BUmm no its not, Cloud is known for his immense strength. You're talking about him like he's a regular human being, he's an ex-SOLDIER, meaning he was infused with jenova cells. [/B]
well, Squall isn't what you would call a regular human being either, as the GF junction grants him powers beyond a regular human being ala Jenova cells...
and this is not merely gameplay...
GF junction was first mentioned in the story by Irvine as its power came with a price, one's memories. which is why none of them could remember that they were all from the same orphanage...
Jenova cells for Cloud = GF junction for Squall
