There are also areas when Sidious could have destroyed Mace, a simple sweep of his saber and Mace would be without any feet during that spin. And also Palpatine sends a message to Anakin, he KNOWS Anakin will come back. And Palpatine knew exactly who was arriving, he wanted thekm to, this is made clear. He knew fully well who'd arrive, too.
He had a reason to convince Mace he had to be destroyed and to present himself as beaten for Anakin's benefit, that's reason enough.
You can choose whether to take a kick and allow yourself to be overwhelmed...and Sidious says 'die', so it must be true? Was it true when he said he's surrender power? Lucas even said later on, they added new things to the scene. Why would he fake the duel? He wants Mace to try to kill him, Mace isn't at that point, so Sidious gives him added incentive in the form of the Force, showing him Sidious is too dangerous not to destroy. And in the novelization, Mace gets the better of Sidious when he sees an opening: Sidious drops his speed and his guard slightly, but it's what Mace needs. And if he wanted to kill Mace with the lightning, why isn't he giving it his all? Why isn't he hurling out everything he has which is far more than lightning? Why doesn't he simply attempt a force push while Mace is struggling? Why is everything just PERFECTLY working out to Sidious' advantage when the Visual Guide says he planned to use Anakin as his greatest weapon in the duel in a world with no coincidences?
Yes i'm comparing both, why? Because I wanted to show that Mace is very capable of killing an opponent rather than only disarming him. Both were nearly defeated the same way.
Let his guard down and slow his speed? They were both clenching their teeth right before Mace kicked the saber out of his hands.
According to the movie- highest level of canon, Palpatine was caught by suprise. Oh and to answer your question, what happens when you give a man .. err pardon me. The Dark Lord of The Sith and most dangerous manipulator an opening. I would kill him right there and end the whole thing rather than disarm him.
No, according to the movie, he SEEMED to be caught by surprise, because his thoughts were never voiced nor were we privy to them.
And what happens when you give a man an opening? Generally he takes it and if you take a gamble-like Sidious often does- it can pay off, especially when you trust in your skill to make sure you're not kiled. or leave your face open and blade level with the other guy so he attempts something physical.
Not by suprise, look at how these two were grinding thier lightsabers and clenching thier teeth. Mace abruptly disarmed Sidious, almost too fast to plan.
Here.
Could someone like Revan beat 3 masters like Qui Gon, Plo Koon, and Obi Wan? Yes, actaully fairly easily.

meh..this is not debate.. I'm just trying to make my point. No point debating LS, I know I would lose..
^^😆
LS is saying everything I would have said about Sidious faking the Duel so I wont bother adding to his argument. But for all that "Mace had a few chances to kill Sidious" stuff people have been saying, look at this shot. Sidious could have trusted forward slightly and killed Mace. Mace has no defensive positioning at all here. So it goes both ways except this shot (unlike the ones where Mace apparently had the chance to kill Sidious) made me go "wtf, why didn't Sidious just kill him?" when I first saw the movie...
