it was never the actual stories that made astonishing great though, its the interpersonal stuff, the relationships between the characters, at least imo...

😆 I'm not saying it out of spite.

This really is the best X-story out in quite a while.

But, better than trash doesn't make it the holy grail.

i know, i was teasing... dur

i guess we disagree then... for me its been one of the better marvel books (its only real problem how long it takes to come out imo), but i think its up there with the likes of morrison and claremont (when he was good) in terms of quality...

if i thought it was just passable, i'd honestly say so, but i actually think its really that good... obviously there are poor issues, but on the whole i think its been quite good...

It's better than just passable.

It's good.

Just not the Grail.

...........dude it good, but overrated.

I mean for starters the realationship between the characters is good but not that good.

scot and Logans realationship it kinda meh in it.

also you said becauses there not at eachothers throats? thats been like that for years and years.

I mean if you want to read a good issue were scots shown bad ass and Logan and scot relationship is described well would be right after scots return from being thought dead ( when actaully he was part of apoc)

I say that era wrote there relationship on a whole other level then the current story.

like soljer said. It good and the best x story out, but lets not kid are selfs it not the best x-men story ever written.

And it is overrated. people act like it the best ever done when it not.

While I do agree that Astonishing is a bit overrated, I still think that it is, with out a shadow of a doubt, the best X title in close to twenty years.

That last issue was pretty predictable though... and that Silver Surfer line at the end was almost lame enough to eclipse Cyc's bad-ass moment. I swear, I threw up in mouth a little when I read "To me, my x-men."

I haven't read every single issue, but it seems that a lot of the Logan relationships aren't expanded upon in favor of all the other characters.

Which I am totally cool with/about.

he should not even bee in the issues. I mean he hardly does anything and I think other characters would be much funnier to read about like night crawler.

in your opinion, not in mine... 😬

i know that. im talking about them interacting on a regular basis as well as having this respect, which they seem to be doing in a more expanded upon way... morrison was one of the big instigators of all that...

Well, if comics ran on laughs and not dollars, maybe we'd all have our perfect world.

Alternatively, if a certain IQ was required to read them.

Or, just have an interrogation when you attempt to buy one.

"Why are you purchasing this issue of Astonishing X-Men?"
"teh clawz!"
"Get out."

But why bother using Wolverine then? He hasn't played a significant role any of the Astonishing X-Men story arcs... hell, he hasn't played a significant role in any of the Astonishing X-Men issues. He is there for comic relief, filler and so you can put a popular character on the cover to push issues. Other writers have been restriced from using the Astonishing X-Men cast, which is fine in the case of Scott, Emma, Kitty, Collossus and Beast, since great stuff has been done in the pages of Astonishing with them and the are important to the over all plot... but holding a monopoly on Wolverine is stupid if you aren't going to do anything with him. If it wasn't for Astonishing, Brubaker could have used Wolverine instead of Warpath like he wanted.

Wolverine brings little to the story of Astonishing X-Men... infact I would say that it would be better with out him. Nightcrawler in his place would be a better fit IMO.

Agreed, but 12 year old Billy who buys an issue every now and then so he can see Logan pop the claws doesn't.

Either that, or there were an overwhelming number of e-mails "lol"ing at the issues when Emma's Imaginary Hellfire Club mindraped Wolvers into being a polite gentleman.

Either way, the puppeteer at Marvel has tunnel vision.

You predicted that Cylcops' purposely killed himself in hopes of being resurrected by Krunn in order for him to gain information about a made up secret weapon codenamed Leviathan? Followed by Cyclops not only retaining his powers, but learning to control them?

Did you by chance write the Destiny Diaries, too?

No but I read comics... comics that take place after Astonishing X-men where Cyclops happens to be, you know, alive. Using my amazing powers of deduction and knowing that a) Cyclops is alive after Astonishing X-Men, b) Cyclops has his powers after Astonishing X-Men and c) there are only two Astonishing issues left, its pretty easy to come to the conclusion that Cyclops wasn't dead and still had his powers.

It's not like you needed to be Batman to figure out what was going on.

that cyclops line is the kind of thing xavier would say... i honestly didnt know why on earth he'd say that...

No clue. Newsarama loved it though. One of their reviewers said that final page surpassed Wolverine swearing vengeance on the Hellfire Club at the end of Uncanny 133... which is complete rubbish.
