You make great points but are missing something important. Lifting, pulling feats ARE used as a direct or indirect basis to determine who is stronger, just not directly all the time. For example, how do you know Thanos strength can compare or succeeds Superman's strength. Simply because of the way he fought other strong characters. But how do we know those other characters are as strong as Superman? Let me guess, is it because of lifting, pulling, etc. feats? The point is we need a frame of reference when comparing two characters who never engaged each other physically. This frame ultimately is based on (even if indirectly) lifting, pulling, etc. feats.

With that said, handling other characters in h2h doesn't mean you are necessarily stronger. It could simply mean that your overall (skill+strength+speed+durability) value is higher than theirs (and not that your strength alone is higher than theirs).

In fact, show me some of Marvel characters strength based based characters [a character we can directly relate in a performance to Thanos] most impressive feats of raw strength over the last 10 years, and we'll put them up in a bracket against Superman's performances.

Because suggesting Thanos is physically stronger than character A) whos stronger than B) and C), does nothing for me when Superman and his DC peers operate on a drastically higher level physically on a regular basis.

A weakened Hulk held together a splitting in half planet sakaar which is TWICE the size of Earth "together" with nothing but brute strength.

Hulk punches were strong against Onslaught that it was creative shockwaves so powerful that it was even pushing high Heralds back. A weakened Hulk destroyed an asteroid twice the size of Earth. Hulk has also held apart a positve and negative antimatter bomb from touching each other.

All of this is strength.
