It was not the energy/power display that would have done her in, but the exposure to space that resulted from it. Read the next issue. When she is floating through space in the last moments of her life, the Acanti comes to rescue her. It was established a few issues before the Brood Saga that Storm can survive in space for only a few minutes unaided.

And I would love to know where Storm almost killed Magneto, because if you are referring to where he said "you almost had me", nothing is mentioned about him dying.
