Yep that's right Starhawk, and guess what determines a rise in minimum wage - inflation. This whole system is in place to avoid the nightmare, you think you're living in.
It's not as nightmare I'm living in, for the last time, I am in the higher tax bracket.
And when wages go up, inflation goes up even more to compensate.

No when inflation goes up, wages go up. Not, the other way round. Also let me get this straight, you're a student and you're in the higher tax bracket?

inflation will go up in the long run as wages increase
but as far as I know inflation is set by the bank of Canada, and thus doesn't fluctuate very much depending on economic performance, and is used more as a tool to affect the economy.
Originally posted by inimalistI assume you mean the official cash rate is set by the Government reserve bank, and that allows a control of inflation to an extent. It only has so much control though I assume.

The bank of Canada has held inflation to 2% for over 15 years now

And you think stores are keeping to that? I hope not because they aren't. And the moment they see the increase in effect their prices are going to go up.
Originally posted by chillmeistergenYou get near the equivalent of your tuition and books back after taxes. Usually students don't make enough to actually pay taxes. I doubt Starhawk actually paid any taxes this year that he didn't get back.
Also Starhawk, you get taxed even though you're in full term education?

As a disabled person I get my medical expenses reimbursed through taxes, other then that I would pay.

Oh right, there was I thinking he was paying full taxes.

A little while ago you were arguing that the whole poverty situation can be solved by raising wages. Now you take an entirely different tact and argue that if wages are raised so will be the cost of living. This defeats your whole argument, by your hand.

No we do need to raise wages, but reduce taxes on the lower brackets to offset inflation.

Then why do you have a problem with the Conservatives when they actually reduced taxes for the poorest people?
When was this? Are you speaking of your province? And I don't hate the Conservatives. Mike Harris was a great premier, I don't agree with all the things he did but I prefer him to McGunity any day.
