I'll tell you why I was so let down. 3 major things.

1) The CGI was terrible..
2) Will Smith made me uncomfortable..he was too out there..
3) It got so drawn out towards the end that I lost interest..

1) Terrible seems a little strong. It wasn't good, that's for sure. Even worrse- it wasn't NECESSARY. Real people and good makeup would have been FAR better.
2) Too out there? If anything, he was too TOGETHER. This was a man alone, at the end of his rope, living in a nightmare. I thought his performance was great.
3) I don't know about drawnout- I thought it felt rushed, like they just wanted to wrap it up. The ending felt tacked-on to me.

All in all, a fairly good movie- with some really good moments.

Will Smith was great, as always. As for people in makeup being better than CGI, I'm not sure about that. It wouldn't look as realistic when they crawled on walls and did all that mouth opening stuff they constantly did. I loved everything about the movie except the ending.

I can't believe he did that (held back details for the sake of spoilers).

Also, there were no vampires in this movie...

Originally they were using real people. Check wiki, the problem was that the zombies were supposed to be amped-up humans, so its hard to make an actual person appear that way. That might also be why the cgi was sub-par, since there could have been time/budget restraints.

I thought the flick was fairly well done. I enjoyed the visual appeal and I was able to more than tolerate Will Smith. I thought the movie fell apart in the third act. The last thirty minutes felt rushed. I also thought that the quest for a cure kind of held the movie down. As the audience, i have been there, done that. I knew he was going to find a cure, i knew the movie would end on a hopeful note. Will Smiths character and story, felt very very typical. The movie had a lot of potential and delivers moderate entertainment to me. I think, i may prefer Omega man over I am legend.

i liked i am legend 😄

I've just watched this ending from another site, I am Legend ended THE WAY it should've ended.

umm.... well i havent commented on the movie yet so let me start there.

i was very upset to see the butchering of one of my favorite stories ever.

and thank god that ending didnt make it.... cause if so i would have sued lawrence myself for shity directing and raping of a timeless work of art. you made constantine lawrence.... how could you go so wrong?

p.s. omega man and last man on earth might as well be placed under the same rock as i am legend.

BOOOO!

p.p.s. i just want to see someone like danny boyle or maybe even david lynch (even tho hed never agree) to take matheson's story their own direction.

further more...http://imdb.com/title/tt1167498/

what the f*ck is that?!
im so mad i might vomit! 😠

Danny Boyle in 28 Days Later pulled it off, as with the zombies in Dawn of the Dead remake. If they had gone in that direction with good makeup and maybe a little bit of CGI, it would have been terrific.

I prefer the alternative ending, it's still bla though.

p.p.s.s. after a second to think i would actaully like to see darren aronofsky... any director who can capture the character's insanity that is revealed through out the book... cause its so dark yet human

Why do you prefer the alternate ending?

Even though it's a 'happy ending', it's closer to the book than the original movie ending from what I can remember. If you have read the book, he finally realises things. It shows it more in the alternative version.

I've read the book. I did when I was younger.

I would have greatly preferred live actors in place of CGI mutants. that really took the tone of the film down a bit as did the smart mutant.

yeah but what kills me... balls i forget if there is an official way to do spoilers, f*ck ill just make my own...wait i got it...

Spoiler:
i am legend is based around robert neville being the last human being... that evolution of man has occured. and that he was a living legend of humanity as it once was.... not a f*cking doctor, who makes a cure or if were talking alternate... survives... to be a legend you cant be alive!....

the movie had barely any original purpose that the book had... i understand that a movie has to change the story a bit to appease the informed and not so informed viewers.... but the whole story is based around what i wrote in the spoiler section... ok maybe ones man to coup solitude too....
otherwise its just an sci-fi/action/drama with goofy *ssed looking will smith. its not too later... if you liked the movie i seriously recommend you reading the book... 10 kudos from me.

nuff said

p.s. i know im probably being very anal and stupid about this... but im just tired of hollywood making shitty action packed movies out of great stories.... cause now im gonna have to wait another 30 some years before they dig i am legend out of a closet to probably screw up again.

i just feel these movies get rushed into garbage

Did the book talk about Bob Marley as well? I was just wondering.

I liked this movie, wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but I loved the first twenty minutes. The scenes where he's with his dog, driving around in his car wherever and however he wants, hunting animals, encountering lions . . . . I thought that shit was tight.

I also thought the dog deserved a doggy Oscar for best dog actor. It's rare when a dog in a film just acts like a dog. They usually do cute stuff or you can tell there is a trainer off screen telling them what to do, but this movie had none of that.

No Marley in the book; the book was set in the 1950's (or so). The guy in the book was also just a regular Joe, dealing with an extraordinary situation as best he could, not a super-scientist trying to save mankind.

The dog in the book plays a much different role.

It's a good book and a really short read, pick it up if you have the chance and a few hours to read through it.

I will do so, thanks, RT.
