So does that mean the version of New Gods we've seen, [that we Universal in size/scale], were also not the 'real' versions?

Probably so.

But they've even hinted at that previously as well.

Darkseid claimed all we ever saw of him was a fraction of a truly omnipotent being.

Lots of good stuff in here about Final Crisis from the writer himself, but something I found interesting.

GM: Very much. I mean, obviously when you’re dealing with DC characters, these are very big, iconic guys. We’re doing some new characters as well, maybe revisiting some who’ve only made one appearance or so in books like 52, characters who might seem minor but they really become kind of the driving force of the narrative because they’re the identification guys – sometimes it can be really hard to identify with characters as huge as Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman in a story that’s this big, so we wanted some human scale guys in there too to reinforce the spine of the book.

So yeah, it’s very character-driven, but it’s also got this big mythic element as well, because of the type of characters we’re using.

We’re dealing with the evil gods, the New Gods and Darkseid, in a way that you’ve never seen them before. We discover that all the previous experiences of the New Gods have kind of been projections into the DC Universe, and we’ve never seen the real thing until now…so it’s bad. (laughs). It’s the real deal this time. Real evil.

GM: Well, for me, the great thing about this story is that the New Gods themselves are out of the picture. The idea is that the war between the gods has been won, and evil has won, and evil has now come to Earth to enact its revenge against every living thing. So it’s essentially good versus evil, and that’s what the story is all about.

In previous cases where the heroes of the DCU have faced Darkseid, they’ve had the powers and the technology of the New Gods to help them…this time they’re alone against absolute overwhelming cosmic evil.

So from there, it’s quite easy to get into the mind of characters like Darkseid

repost so it doesn't get lost at the bottom of the page.

There've been hints of that sort of thing here and there, like Devil lance the Pursuer being hundreds of feet tall in 52.

Well its about time that Darkseid finally won the war. It sounds kind of silly if they are really going to say that everything we know about Darkseid is basically a lie. If they really try to pull this is finally the real Ds I will be highly disappointed with dc in general.

So a "one more day" is being pulled on the new gods?

Because they are making Darkseid more powerful than even what nvr would make him?

Or just powerful in general for you?

Not quite.

This, at least, has been hinted at in-canon a few times.

And this actually looks good ✅

I trust the mad scotsman to make something memorable. and jumpy by Jack Kirby's pencil, this is amazing. We're finally going to get the thing they've been hinting at for most of their series. The true stature and status of the new gods.

Personally, I loved Seven Soldiers. If he writes this as a combination Seven Soldiers and JLA (preferably something on scale with or larger than WW3 (Mageddon for those who haven't read that part of JLA) ), then I'll be happy.

Plus, OMD was a disaster, regardless of the new writers being better. This has Grant freaking Morrison and Geoff 'Mr. Green Lantern' Johns doing the writing. So it's practically guaranteed to be epic. 😱

Why are you 'dur'ing me? I thought you'd be agreeing with what I've said....

This huge 'retcon' of the new gods just being projections from another dimension or some such. Perhaps returning them to their five-hundred foot tall status or whatever. Things like that have been hinted about in the past and then ignored. This is just taking those old hints a step further and grounding them in reality.

It says he appeared in like two comics... in 1974.

Libra assembles an army of the DCU's most terrifying villians?

though, twasn't Libra who led an army.
