Then you'd have people whining about buying extra issues (see: Infinite Crisis).

People need to complain about something. It's pretty much picking your own poison.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about anyone here. I'm referring to the types who can't name a DC character outside of Superman and Batman who decide to jump in to these summer events and expect to be spoon fed.

I understand and agree with you completely but I'd complain more about the way FC is set up as opposed to infinite crisis was. Sure FC is reasonably self contained and doesn't have a million tie ins for fans to worry about the full story. However countdown was 52 issues that counted down to something that completely contradicts the story of countdown......and that's not even mentioning DOTNG which contradicts both of those yet again.....
Don't get me wrong I think it's admirable that DC should include such a mega event within a story that's supposedly self contained. However any fan who wants to read into it more, which DC should be supporting, is provided with tie ins that confuzzle the story to the nth degree...

Sorry for ranting and it's not really disagreeing with your point, my gripe is that technically hardcore fans are still buying a ton of issues (e.g countdown) for an event that is completely contradictory.... For all it's tie ins at least the previous Crisis was coherant over the titles ✅

I agree completely with the Countdown/DONG (!!!) debacle. For the most part I like what Didio has done with the DCU but if he ends up losing his job over that whole issue I won't say he didn't deserve it.

Yup

IMO the best FC title so far by far.

How much would you say MM's house weighed? As that's a pretty impressive strength feat

It really was a good read, I liked the part when Batman gave him a cookie at the end

I don't think it's possible to be a bandwagon fan for FC. Being a huge comic nerd, I probably got a few more references than the casual reader (Although very little when compared to most DC fans on these boards) and I'm positive I missed many, many references to characters or situations in the book. I love both Marvel and DC, I know lotsa stuff about the major players in both universes and have shelves full of comics from both companies, but (for example) FC #1 was the first time I'd ever heard of Dick Turpin. Imagine what reading FC must be like for someone whose interested and picking up comics for the first time 🙂

Pretty much. All but the most hardcore DC-philes have a few things go over their head, and most are fairly lost.

I've been at my wit's end trying to keep a friend of mine afloat. I've started hoarding issues rather than give them to him one week at a time...if he reads more at once, it'll hopefully string together into a coherent story for him.

Well at least we can't say MM didn't put up a fight. He was shown to put up a real one in Requiem #1

I am not lost. But the way Grant Morrison is trying to tie everything together in a very cryptic way is just not entertaining for me. 'Earth X' did this better in a sprawling epic that managed to both honor and tie everything about Marvel's Silver Age together whilst providing some epic action and beautiful character moments. All we get is some Bendis-like last page shocker with the off-panel death of Martian Manhunter and Barry Allen making his, what... fifth or six post-death appearance to Wally?

If you read 'Seven Soldiers' and older 'Fourth World' stuff and current Geoff Johns GL stuff... apparently you're having the time of your life. If you read 'Countdown' or 'Death of the New Gods,' you're screwed. Of course, you had to read at least some of 'Countdown' to figure out just who all these Monitors are, but not all of 'Countdown.' Oh, and if you happened to enjoy Superman: The Animated Series, you might have an idea of who Detective Turpin is and what kind of person he is.

I am not bothering with any 'Final Crisis' tie-ins. None. Probably not even those written by Grant Morrison. 'Superman: Beyond' sounds cool... but 'Batman: R.I.P.' seems to have nothign to do with 'Final Crisis' so there's no guarantee it'll even matter. None of them are guaranteed to have anything to do with 'Final Crisis.' And I mean... think about it. If they have nothing to do with 'Final Crisis,' they are completely stripped of their gravitas. Superman-Prime against Superman and the Legion? Who gives a crap! Unless you like Superemo-Prime, nothing that occurs there will have ANY consequence whatsoever. Personally, I don't feel like wasting money on stuff that either has nothing to do with, or would actively detract from enjoying 'Final Crisis.' And I will never buy another DC tie-in to another major event. A lot of people already hate tie-ins because they can dilute the major storyline, but usually you buy them because you appreciate some character focus or want to see something that collaterally adds to the experience. I've NEVER had major tie-ins actively mislead me. That kind of editorial laziness will bite Didio in the ass. You can bet on it.

Ugh. What type of person he is was clearly demonstrated in the first issue. You need a time out.

Go sit in a corner and wait for the new announced Marvel project that no one knows anything about.

Yep. It was pretty cool how he 'called' the Justice League, but at the same time sad because you knew he was going to die.
