Had anybody here had any problems while reading Final Crisis ? Because on many boards, some posters ***** about how confusing it is while I don't find anything confusing about it.

Had those people read Seven Soldiers/DotNG before hand? If not, then I could understand the confusion.

Well, it's not like the basics haven't already pretty much been stated by Grant in the issues themselves. 😬

It's just that I've got the impression that people don't like to think and analyze anymore. They want 'Hulk-smash !' type of storylines, with lots of pointless action and dragging plot. I for one, love the type of storytelling Grant is using.

The comic is fairly straightforward- not just by Grant Morrison standards but by COMIC BOOK standards in general. I don't really understand how people aren't getting it.

Agreed. I was just saying that if you read SS/DotNG, it ties FC together quite a bit more. I only say this, because I just re-read the aforementioned issues (lol).

But yeah, FC is something you have to read a couple times, and analyze it afterwards. It's definitely going to be a "thinking mans" series, when all is said and done, imo.

Well, I think it's an understandable gripe for some. Throwing together entire universes worth of characters is daunting to many who aren't familiar with each character and storyline. If someone casually follows a few big titles in DC, then randomly starts reading FC, there's going to be a ton of confusion.

Case in point: I have no problem, but a friend of mine who likes comics but rarely reads a bunch is totally lost. I've been giving him some Countdown and DotNG's stuff, as well as catching him up to speed on various continuity issues ("there's THREE Flashes?!"😉 but he's still having some trouble. He used to read a bunch of Fourth World stuff, but not a ton of mainstream books, so it's a lot to take in. He's sticking with it because he loves Darkseid, but it's rough on him.

But we're the hardcore geeks. We're the ones who will get the story in its entirety. For everyone else, the Crises are more to clean up continuity so that they can understand it....at least the first two were.

Just to say this has happened to me recently, started reading FC a few days ago, and to be blunt i have no idea whats going on.

That's because they aren't aquaincted with characters from the DCU. This is why Didio gets my vote for doing a good job. Prior to FC there were reprints of the key characters in the FC from the New Gods to the Flash Rogue villains. That was the chance for new readers to get a more indepth of the key players.

There is no need for a PhD on the DCU. All that is needed is the reprints and FC will seen more clear.

I don't understand people who jump into these events and then get mad because they have trouble following it.

Following a comic book storyline is a big commitment. People who post on message boards should know that already.

It's not really a commitment to it.

On that note i am confused by FC, not angry but confused.

It's a commitment for a lack of a better term. 😛

I'm just tired of people whining about how this stuff should be new reader friendly, if there is such a thing.

People shouldn't be able to just jump into a major DC event and know what's going on if they don't read any comics.

You're right, the bitching is rather funny. peaches

Truth. Though I occasionally empathize with the casual fan. My friend just loves Darkseid, and is honestly losing interest. I realize it's hard for an event to cater to both hardcore and casual fans, but DC undoubtedly could've made the job a bit easier by having a more coherent lead-in to FC.

I understand, it's just that this FC throws everything in the deep end from the start.

Then you'd have people whining about buying extra issues (see: Infinite Crisis).

People need to complain about something. It's pretty much picking your own poison.

Just to be clear, I'm not talking about anyone here. I'm referring to the types who can't name a DC character outside of Superman and Batman who decide to jump in to these summer events and expect to be spoon fed.

Fair enough.

Good thing we don't have that problem.
