superherohype stated that the person signed would be for a 9 picture deal?
seriously 9 pictures, these days we can't get past 3 (spiderman) or even 1 (hulk & punisher) without hollywood thinking about a reboot.

i think Chris Pine may be able to pull it off. or how about the guy who plays Peter petrellie in heros?
or if Ray Park could get rid of his Acent get him to do it.

Forget Ray Park. Virtually all his roles have had him wearing heavy makeup or a mask, and being virtually mute - he's not a very emoting actor. He could have played Iron Fist years ago; Marvel didn't go through with it for a reason.

In my opinion a younger actor in a superhero movie is more likely going to be given goofy catchphrases and act like a strutting macho man.

Steve Rogers is kind of a serious man (thats how I see him) who has the military bearing of a soldier and is very old fashioned considering he jumps from his time into modern day. That is if they do it that way, but if they do you need an actor who can bring that sense of history with him.

I'm not saying Fillion is perfect but consider this: his character in Firefly/Serenity brings some of the qualities that Steve Rogers possesses. He's certainly old-fashioned, he's a leader of his crew and fights to protect them sometimes at the cost of himself, is a militaristic sort of character fighting for his freedom (rebel, not a soldier as such but it doesn't matter). Like I mentioned before I believe he has the look.

Rogers can't emerge into the future as a green 20-year old rookie or it would be foolish to expect him to carry his own movie or lead The Avengers with any authority (which he certainly would in a movie).

i understand what you are saying but remember Rogers was in his early twenties when he first joined the army and then subsequently become Cap, but i do think the main thing must be a good story should be told no matter who plays steve/cap

I guess you haven't seen Heroes then?

Why? Jeph Loeb's involved. 😛

Is Ray Park on Heroes?

If he has better acting chops than I know of, he'd be better suited to playing Union Jack, instead of the Captain.

(Whistles) That would quite a coup, getting Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull.
After seeing some recent photos of the candidates that are left, I think Mike Vogel has the closest look.

Weaving can act so if he does sign on, he just needs a great script

Weaving should be good.

Problem is him out acting and stealing the spotlight from the no named start who is playing CAP. Which I dont mind because Cap doesnt need a great actor, Skull does.

It's the traditional way when you are casting a no-name or lesser known actor as your hero. Get a heavyweight character actor as his nemesis. Red Skull will be different, in that most of these villains are ones we like, or love to hate. Red Skull is so despicable, in comparison to Green Goblin, Lex Luthor or even the Joker.

Weaving as the Skull would be fantastic, and he's proved he can act brilliantly without evening seeing his face for an entire film (he was damn good as V in Vendetta), which seems to make him ideal for playing someone who will be under heavy makeup or a cg skull.

So Hugo Weaving seems ready to sign on. That's good news.
But the article reporting this on Rotten Tomatoes, also talks about rumours Joe Johnston is going to be replaced as Director.
Maybe because there's disagreements behind the scenes on the casting of Steve Rogers...? They said in February, they would have their leading actor by the beginning of March. And no one is signed, yet.

He's an acceptable candidate.

What's Chris Evans up to, though? Doing Fantastic Four & The Losers isn't enough for his resume in comic book roles? He's getting greedy - bet he auditions for Green Arrow when that comes up, to. 😛

Yeeesssss...well, we had rumours that SOUNDED certain in the past few weeks, like about John Krasinski. So far, that's what this is, too. And you see the updates about them testing Alexander Sarsgard just in case...Marvel must be really nervous over who they pick...

Did you see the side story about Alex Ross, claiming only Jon Hamm is right to play Steve, and that Marvel is too concerned about where Captain America starts, not about what he becomes?
🙄
Yes, thank you Alex. Jon Hamm is nearly forty. Movie is set when he's a 20-something army recruit. Now go back to your drawing board; as Hawkgirl once said to Lobo - "You need to be quiet now."
