Early April Fools Joke? 🙄

I was ready to yell out in anger, but I just checked the web. No mention of any such casting news, and no mention on Topher Grace's IMDB profile. So - psyche.

It says here Chris Evans has won the role.

Not sure he's the best option, but he's far from the worst. He's well built, and I saw him give a very mature performance in the British SciFi thriller 'Sunshine', so he's a good enough actor. I'll forget about his Fantastic Four days and give him a chance.

There might be prosthetics involved. He does have to be a skinny army reject to start with, then change dramatically. So he needs an in-between physique, becasue they can't shut down production for months while he puts on 30 pounds of muscle.

And I like the size difference between the three principle Avengers.
Robert Downey Jr./Iron Man - 5"9
Chris Evans/Captain America - 6"0
Chris Hemsworth/Thor - 6"3

Thor should be the biggest of the three.

ya know what they could do is cgi evans's head unto christian bale's the machinist body to get them the skinny look

I'm just happy the casting is done, we have our Steve, and that I won't be worrying for months they've made a mistake (aka John Krasinski.)

Wonder if they'll push the ratings line - pg-13? - and give it at least a touch of Saving Private Ryan kind of feel?

I think they have to and then everything will level off

well im torn on the matter of Chris Evans casting...happy because i think he could pull of the "look" but idk ive seen F4 1&2, Push & Cellular....im just not sure if he can play the role quite right...idk maybe im wrong or it's just me fearing this will get screwed up completely......

chris evans needs some bulk for this role. he's already pretty cut, just needs a bit more muscle mass..

I do not like this but it is what it is.

Does anyone else find it as important as I that he have Steve's very blonde hair and blue eyes?

I know its nit picky but it bothers me when they don't do little things like get the actors hair color right like he did in F4. But this time, to me atleast, its VERY important. It was symbolic and very ironic that Steve was the very ideal the Nazi's he was fighting believed in and he was fighting againist them. I remember reading him talking to spiderman or someone once about how there was a Nazi solider he killed he couldn't get out of his head because he had looked up and him and smiled as he died. Going on to say he'd realized it was because the Nazi had looked up and noticed his blue eyes and blonde brow and knew he'd been beaten by the thing he believed was superior.

I jus always enjoyed that aspect of Steve having to deal with being the Nazi's idea of superiority and how much he's againist all of that.

His shorter haircut in FF didn't bother me in the slightest. Especially since they went the distance & gave Jessica Alba blond hair & blue contacts. He's got the basic template; it's not like they cast Seth Rogen.

See now thats my point. Jessica Alba looked NOTHING!! like Sue to me at all, atleast in appearence. Her acting wasn't exactly spot n what I envisioned Sue as being either. Kristy Swanson had always been my idea of the perfect Invisible woman cast.

But my point is she looked really off with that super blonde hair and blue eyes that looked as if they were burning a hole into my soul! And yet they couldn't just dye Evans hair to match as well? 😕

Look at Chris Evans.

Is this the guy you can imagine leading R.D.J.'s Iron Man? Not me. He doesn't look like a leader, he certainly doesn't strike me as someone who'll do the role well because I've seen a lot of what he's in and he's either generic or poor.

Bearing in mind, though, this movie is set in the past. I just think that if they go with him for the opener, they need an older Cap for the rest.

Hemsworth as Thor, visually, does not give me confidence, but neither did Heath Ledger as the Joker until I saw him. I haven't seen enough of Hemsworth to judge.

I've seen Evans' movies, and he sucks in all of them.

So now the casting decisions are for the female leads - Betsy Ross or Peggy Carter or both. Alice Eve & Keira Knightly are the names being tossed around.
I hope it's Alice Eve. She's a fresh, newer face, and looks more the part.
And has a better body than Knightly - really has that 1940's pinup look.

You see "Sunshine"? He was good in that.

Otherwise I agree with the rest of your post, I'm very hesitant about the casting for Cap and Thor... very hesitant.

Evans doesn't exactly strike me as a Captain America, but he was solid in Sunshine. I'll withhold judgment for now.

I'm just hoping Joe Johnston still has got it

considering some of his good work was The Rocketeer, Jumanji, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
