The First Avenger: Captain America

I really dug this movie. It's right up there with some of the best marvel has made IMO. But the only thing that sort of picked at me the whole movie was, Steve really wasn't shown to have ANY training after getting the SSS. I was really hoping they'd do something to account for that, like some small time jump or something, but it really is like he's just fast, strong and knows how to throw a shield. When a voice kept saying in my head, "how does he even know how to throw the shield like that?"

Really, REALLY enjoyed this. I can't believe the critics are putting it so low, but the fans get the idea.

It has action, drama, and enough lightheartedness to rank it up there in the upper echelon of comic movies; exactly where Cap belongs.

Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and now Cap all have great movies on their resume. Hopefully, Avengers will only enhance that.

Actually disappointed, decent movie, nothing special about it, found myself wanting it to end.

However, i seem to have my own weird criteria for a good super hero movie, Xmen first class is a horrible movie in my opinion, yet it gets all this praise, what do i know lol.

I believe this is deliberate on the part of Marvel. Joe Johnston has talked about future Captain America movies, how they have left lots of room for WW2 flashbacks to reflect on the stories of Cap in the present.

In the movie, nearly a year passes between when Steve gets the SS formula to when he first goes AWOL from the USO show to pull a mission in Italy ( mid 1942 to mid 1943.) Lots of room in there for Steve to do training on his own, even if officially he's never supposed to get into combat at that point.

ComingSoon.net has posted the weekend box office estimates which show that show that Captain America: The First Avenger easily topped the second weekend of "Harry Potter" in North America:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios' Captain America: The First Avenger opened in first place at the domestic weekend box office with an estimated $65.8 million from 3,715 theaters. Averaging $17,719 per theater, the Joe Johnston-directed comic book adaptation narrowly beat Thor's opening weekend of $65.7 million. The final figures on Monday will show whether that remains the case. Made for about $140 million, not counting marketing costs, the action adventure stars Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke and Stanley Tucci. The studios say that 40% of the ticket sales came from 3D theaters.

I think they went more for the Ult Cap version than 616. This might explain why hes a powerhouse.

loved the movie.. can't wait for the avengers.. awesome trailer.. evans had cap down pat..

It's definitely possible for his training to have happened in that time period. It just would have put my mind at ease alot earlier on in the movie if they showed some of it or even just mentioned that he did training during that time.

I've heard great things from X-Men First Class, but from non comic fans, it's mixed bags across the board. Same with every super hero movie that has come out. I'm just not that easily impressed. Same with the Dark Knight. One of the weak aspects of that movie was the fight scenes.

Superhero cameo in this movie

Jim Hammond The original Human Torch.

I completely agree with this. It would have taken less than 5 minutes to show a few scenes of him training in some form of martial arts, and it would've made the movie perfect for me. Loved everything else., solid 8/10.

is it really that tough of a pill to swallow, not being shown a few seconds of cap training? the villain has a f*cking RED SKULL for a face, ffs..

Yeah it is. It just seemed like at no point was he actually trained to fight, throw his shield, and shot guns. Even before Steve got the serum, none of his training involved combat skills that he displayed after becoming a super soldier. I would've bought it if they had him training and remarking on how fast he's learning and keen his sense became as a result of the serum. Thus, they conclude how he's able to so accurately throw his shield and ricochet it.

Enjoyed Cap but the action was lacking by the end. Caps victories were anti-climatic. There wasn't enough henchman's to make Cap actually work for it. Hydra agents were just a bunch of foot ninjas and that was it.

To me it is because fighting/skill is such an important piece of who cap is and I feel they should have touched on it ATLEAST. It doesn't ruin the movie for me at all, but when you watch it again with this in mind, it comes across as a pretty big oversight.

You people need to join the Military.

I was in the Army for 5 years, and in basic training (which Cap completed in this movie if you payed any attention at all), they teach you how to shoot handguns and rifles, how to do hand to hand combat as well as Pugil stick training, how to throw grenades with accuracy, how to run and march and drill and ceremony....etc...

So for anyone to say "He didn't do enough training" uh...do you really want to watch a movie about basic training or do you want to watch Captain America?

They could have just showed a lil' of it is all that's being said. I agree. Let us know that him being faster & stronger ain't the only reasons why he kicks so much ass.

Movie was ok. The action went from brilliant to cheesy. Its unfortunate though that most of the brilliant scenes were during bad montages. I also didn't like how there was no real connection built between Cap and his team. My other complaint is that i never really felt like Cap was as legendary as he is supposed to be. i also could have used some scenes of Cap training with his new abilities rather than him dancing on stage. It wasnt until the last twenty minutes of the movie that he started doing extraordinary feats and actions. All this aside its still a really really good B movie. Shame because the acting was very good. 6/10

As for the comic book movies this summer. I think its apparent that X-men won.

Xmen 8/10
Thor 6/10
Green lantern 6.5/10
Captain america 6/10

Fun summer none the less.

Thats just it dude, BASIC training. 😂 Cap is a goddamn super human. They wouldnt want to find out the limits of his capabilities? They wouldn't like to know just how fast he could run....how much he can endure....,how strong he really is? I know i wanted to know. Also he was being groomed to be a super soldier not a basic soldier.

This movie was good from the beginning to the very end. It's on the same level of Iron Man and Spiderman 2 to me. I have a question about the Red skull though. Did he actually die or did he get taken to Asgard. A stretch is that for the avengers movie or even the sequel Loki will team up with Red Skull who probably is imprisoned up there.
