Just saw the teaser, first off it's not a very good teaser and 2nd his voice sucks and he's not big enough. I think even after i see an actual trailer, i will avoid this like the plauge.
Pretty much agree, I was wondering about the voice... it is deep but I can detect a hint of accent in it. Not to mention the sword twirling looked too arty, especially for a film calling him a 'barbarian'. As for the look, he (Momoa) looks more like a pirate or a goth and even in one picture he looked a lot like Blanka from the live action streetfighter movie (minus make-up of course).
People say, well they're doing it like Robert E. Howard wrote it but they don't stop to consider that Howard probably didn't consider any film version of it to begin with. From my perspective I'd rather Arnie had done a third at the time and rounded it off how the second teased us with that publicity shot of him on the throne of his own kingdom.
That's the most annoying thing about watching 'Destroyer', that damn teaser picture at the end! ๐
Because we needed another Scorpion King... ๐
Sheesh. Conan is barely in the trailer. Seriously, how difficult would it be to make an gritty, epic Conan movie? YOU HAVE ALREADY SOURCE MATERIAL TO WORK FROM!!!!

reading is fundamental. educate yourself on the actual character.

Arnold's Conan was all wrong. Conan is tall with black hair, blue eyes and bronze skin. He weighed between 180- 210. He was a pirate, a thief, and mercenary. so in other words they got his look right.

Who frigin cares about hair and eyes (not as if he is blonde) and Arnie was tanned (not as if he was pale white)
180-210? Arnie was only 240 back then. He was perfect for the role!
Wasn't it shown in the first movie (barbarian) at the end with Conan sitting on the throne? I can't remember.

Actually people who have read the Books which the stories come from do care
but i suppose others don't.... just like with Harry Potter, James Bond.

Wow, I guess those Conan books I've already read and own don't count then?
Momoa looks 100% right then? His face is quite sketetal, his build is less considerable than the other 'manly' characters in the trailer released (he is meant to be Conan, one of the manliest fictional characters ever) he is prancing about like a fairy with these sword moves and his voice is nowhere near impressive. I am aware of and have pointed out Arnold's faults and how he made up for them in this very thread so I suggest you do some reading yourself.

Agreed, and FYI they do show him on the throne at the end of the first movie.

I just don't understand the hate Arnie is getting now with all this remake business. They accuse him of being a bad actor when playing Conan, do you even need to be a great actor to play Conan? Yes, Conan isn't monosyllabic but even in the books he's not overly talkative or introspective about things. And not to mention books always have an edge over films in developing a character more deeply so Arnold can't be blamed for that.
They say he played a dumb character, well I remember Arnie's Conan being quite resourceful in both movies, he seeked help when he needed it, made allies and didn't always go rushing into combat and knew when he had to retreat or sneak around. For me he looked great in the fighting scenes, not too flashy and at times- especially in 'Barbarian'- quite brutal. I love the moments in Destroyer when he and Bombaata are decimating that weakling army, as well as their fight later on. Fantastic stuff!!

Just saw the new trailer..... i will wait for it on dvd. the best thing about this new movie getting released we will hopfully see the original Conan in all it's glory on blu-ray in 5.1 surround sound. and not the mono DVD.
IMO Mamoa does not look or sound the part,(probably why they didn't show him talk to much in the trailer) too small not defined enough, and his voice just doesn't do it for me. Arnie brought so much presence to the screen, and his accent really added to it. I just don't see Mamoa, saying KROM!!!! or if they put it in the classic "what is best in life"
