It is simply a result of inconsistent writing and the creator throwing in random powers for the main characters because they were due to know it. Whenever I think of Sakura in battle, I remember when like three different people had to save her while she literally sat on the ground and gave commentary. I think she fought with at some poi t and started biting the enemy while getting pummeled. It was so painful to watch that I have no idea of her abilities in Shippuden other than that she is stronger.
Still yet, even if she is a prodigy, the decision she makes to kill Sasuke and offer her services to him as soon as she sees him negates EVERYTHING that could have been redeeming. I cannot care for characters who are shown to be talented but waste themselves on either lost causes or dumb goals. I just can't take prodigious dummies seriously
Yea i dont see how she was a genius when the best she could do as a genin hit someone with a tree trap.

I can't speak for Shino, but I have always enjoyed Shikamaru's fights. Personally, I think Kakashi's are more cleverly done, but Shikamaru is resourceful and creative with his shadow jutsus. He is certainly written out to think like a genius, using problem solving and running various scenarios through his head and alwas being careful to make sure as little goes wrong as possible. He can read into battles and determine the victor before anyone wins quite easily. On top of the details of his IQ and affinity for puzzles and tactical games, I consider him to be beyond passable as a genius.
If we are considering prodigies to be different, then I think Shikamafu is too smart and lazy to bream his back in order to become that powerful or "prodigious" or whatever. If it's not his passion, then so what

And like i said shika wanted shino on his team after choji because of his strength but he wasnt in the village at the time.
She's not more intelligent in terms of strategic prowess obviously, but she was the only one who could answer the questions on the first Chuunin test. Shikamaru apparently needed to get the answers from Ino, who got them from Sakura. So yes, Sakura is, in a way, smarter than Shikamaru.

He certainly was fairly strong for his age, but that isn't enough to warrant him being called a genius like Neji and Sasuke.
Shikamaru wanting Shino on his team does little to help your point. Again, exceptional genin =/= prodigy. Is Kiba a prodigy like Neji? Is Chouji?
You're way too loose with the term prodigy. A prodigy would be someone like a 7 year old Sasuke mastering a jutsu that was Chuunin level and above; or a 16 year old Sakura mastering medical ninjutsu such that someone as experienced and skilled as Chiyo was her inferior; or a 17 year old Lee being able to open 6 Gates when more experienced ninja can't even open 1; or a 16 year old Shikamaru coming up with a plan that took out 2 Akatsuki members, one of whom was a ninja old enough to have fought against Hashirama. A dude with awesome shades who out-thinks his opponent in one battle is not a prodigy.
A prodigy is a young person who is proficient enough in a field to the point where they're comparable to much older people who have far more experience in said field.

Im sure shika would have passed the test. He just took the usual lazy route and cheated. Note how quickly he deduced the purpose of the test.

Lol shika did outsmart sound ninja during the invasion when he was still just a genin. The boys iq is over 200 and he has impressed even the hokage himself
Kiba was on the team by default. Shikamaru went looking for shino and couldnt find him. Kiba just happened to be around so he picked him up.
Shino is probably the only one ill take back just due to lack of information we really have other than ppl being afraid of him but even so he was still better than sakura as a genin.
All the ppl i named have done stuff that only someone of jonin rank was known to do while they were genin. Sakura is just not one of those ppl

I agree. Shikamaru gets bad grades because he is lazy if anything. Sakura is not smarter than him. I would say no one in the series except for maybe his dad is smarter than Shikamaru.
